I am a grown up and a rock fan, and I absolutely love this show. If you are a teenager, you will love it, if you are interested in comedies about the rock business (realistic or not is not the question, how realistic was Spinal Tap? And , yet, it was great, 11 stars ;-) ) or into rock music (cause the music is not bad at all!!), you will love it. In a world with a lot of hatred, discrimination, and, not too forget, Rap and Hiphop (loved the 6th episode!), it is great to have a nice, fair show about rock where the only offense (if at all) is directed towards the characters themselves, which are all so lovable, that you don't mind them being a bit cliched (yes, show for kids) and simple-minded. And in contrast to other kids' shows, there are not the usual, flat 'dumb grown-ups' jokes where the teachers and parents (over-re-)act like complete idiots and not in the least with the same charm or originality like Ash. Anyway, the stories are fun and inoffensive, it is realtively original, the music is great, and the lyrics even better (come on, Face down in a plate of Nachos is fabulous - lyrics, music and the performance - instant classic). I will never understand how shows like this one (and Grandfathered and Grinder) get axed while a dull show like Young Sheldon (which is nothing like Big Bang Theory or even Sheldon IN TBBT) or even worse shows get fulsome praise... A shame there is only two seasons of this great, great, funny, creative rock show.
Saw this show for the first time tonight and must admit it did make me laugh several times while watching. Sure it is a bit on the silly side airing on the Disney Channel or Disney XD and the characters are a bit over the top. But really aren't all the characters in sitcoms over the top? Really the show is no more ridiculous than 2 1/2 men or the like and certainly less idiotic than Family Guy and the like.
What it does offer is a show kids can watch and laugh at some of the really dumb stuff and older viewers can watch and enjoy with out a 30 minute stream of sex jokes and offensive humour. One episode I saw had a good deal of semi dark humour as a girls dad/ record producer was having a funeral for her cat "Hip Hop". The band members thought the producer was saying the music style was dead and they were there to celebrate and say how happy they were Hip Hop was dead. Throw in a missing dead cat and some serving trays and I thought it was the funniest funeral since Mary Tyler Moore.
Don't let the "kids Show" label dissuade you from giving this show a look.

I don't understand how some people are talking about it being totally unrealistic and then they start bringing up Hannah Montanah. Talk about unrealistic. First of all, it's nothing alike (This is funny, that sucks), but second of all, I don't really see the big deal here. It's a Disney show. It's meant for kids. Why should it be realistic? It's a lot better than a lot of other kids' shows I've seen (Hannah Montanah, Zack & Cody, iCarly etc)
That said, I just think it's a really funny show. I'm 17 years old right now and I just about cried because I was laughing so loud. It's not some stupid show just for kids, it's really funny. Yeah, some of the jokes are a bit lame, but that all depends on what you like. I think it's great. The characters are really funny, with the three dumb (well, two dumb and one even dumber) rockers and the one smart teenager. The jokes might be a bit easy, but they're just so random that I can't stop laughing about it.
So, taken all that into account, I think this show is great! I wouldn't mind watching it again.

I remember watching I'm in the Band back when I was in elementary school - it quickly became one of my favorite shows. The episodes "Annoying Arlene" and the one where they kept calling Charles "Chuckie" still stick with me today. The humor, the characters, and the chaotic energy of the band made it something really special.
It's genuinely disappointing that the show ended so soon and hasn't gotten the recognition it deserves since. There's no easy or legal way to watch it now unless you buy it on Apple TV - which just isn't accessible for everyone. I really wish Disney would release it on Disney+ or even as a full DVD collection. There's still a loyal fanbase out here who would love to revisit it.
In many ways, I'm in the Band felt like Disney's answer to Drake & Josh - funny, quirky, and full of heart. It had the potential to go even further if it hadn't been cut short. I just wish we had gotten more episodes to enjoy.

I remember when this show first aired. I think I even watched the premiere. Looking back, this show was... questionable.
With a premise similar to Spinal Tap or Popstar, it follows a fictional band. The catch... they're washed up and living in a van with a random family.
One of the band members (played by Steve Valentine, remember that name for future reference) was an Ozzy-type figure. One of the other characters is reminiscent of Kramer, but without the racism.
The only problem I have with this show is that it doesn't show the band snorting comically large piles of coke. You can't have a show about a hair metal band without large amounts of nose candy.
