Dranem is reading the paper when his wife comes into the room and beats him for not tending to his domestic chores. While he does the sweeping, the dishes, and the darning, she bicycles off to enjoy a beer and play some cards and billiards with her pals.
The humor of this short lies in the role reversal. It was a bit that showed up occasionally is silent film comedy and seems to have been invented by Alice Guy in LES RESULTATS DU FEMINISME, although I don't doubt there were earlier version, if only on the stage.
Dranem was a popular figure in musical comedy. He had appeared in several early musical shorts in 1905 and 1906, and made occasional forays like this in the silent era. His movie appearances became frequent in the sound era until he died in 1935 and the age of 66.
