Family movies do well in India because family audiences are able to relate and resonate with the main and supporting characters. If the direction is good the movie will cover all situations from life in a realistic way so the audiences of all age groups can say that " It has happened/ can happen to me". All young people in their 20s have dreamt of having their own home. While the affluent among them easily manage it is the people from the poorer class who find it difficult because of high cost. The story of this movie is about one such middle class, not so well off, newly married couple Soumya ( Sara Ali Khan) and Kapil ( Vicky Kaushal) who live in a joint family in Indore. Since they dont get privacy in their small home, they try to buy a Government flat through an unscrupulous middle man who asks them to go through a fake divorce but the plans backfire and the young couple is left high and dry.
Director Laxman Utekar has targeted family audiences with this simple story which will appeal to them. All scenes are presented well. However the movie is a notch below his earlier directorial efforts like " Luka Chhupi" and " Mimi". I feel that the ending/ climax is disappointing and unconvincing. Maybe the advantages of staying together in a joint family needed to be put across in a clearer manner. In acting both Vicky and Sara are impressive and have brought out the happy and sad moments with great authenticity. Rakesh Bedi and Sharib Hashmi are excellent as usual in supporting roles. Srishti Rindani impresses in a small role.

Its perhaps a golden chance for the writers to give an extreme entertainment and flutter a little with emotions here and there. Basically storyline is not so creative but its plot could have been certainly made better.
Hailing from the makers of luka chuppi, we wanted to expect a thorough rom com rather than a edge of the seat entertainment. But this film tried to go a little beyond by display of basic emotions, looking onto family insight, but sadly it never went there thereby leaving a half baked film.
Not that i am blaming entertainment is less but one may watch the whole film believing in a hope that next scene will be a little better but is it ever.
There are many cliche storylines, a sad heart broken pre climax song that did nothing much but to elongate the already saggy plot .
Having a personal home is an emotion for a basic middle class family. More than anybody i understand the significance of a home. That emotion is not totally captured with its essence. Either way the main agenda of this film is zara hatke zara bachke, writers and director might have thought it is only fair to put forward its literally synonym all through its narration and execution.

Finally after many movies, bollywood gave a beautiful story with the perfect script. The movie starts with happiness and ends with happiness, without any lack of laughter. No character nor dialogue is forced into the audience. Every frame of those 140 minutes is meant to be there.
Sandeep shirodkar did very well with the score, and the songs by Sachin-Jigar are really 10/10. All the songs were perfectly blended into the story.
Talking about the cast, this movie is having the best supporting roles. Vickey kaushal lived his character and even Sara Ali Khan did improve her acting. I don't find any flaws to point out.
The story explains you the real meaning of few things.
Finally laxman ji made a hatrick with this. The meaningful climax leaves an impact of the movie on you.

Somya is married to Kapil and dreams of having her house. She is not happy living with the joint family due to lack of privacy and Kapil's aunt meddling with their life. The inter-caste marriage already has it's challenges which the loving couple have overcome but the dream to have their own house is shattered after the one they chose is proven to be very expensive. The couple hears about the government scheme i.e. Awas yojana and plans to cheat in order to get a house allotted. As they take the extreme step to divorce each other, hiding the real reason from everybody, what situations they get themselves into forms rest of the story.
For an year, I got carried away with the hype around this film and probably had a different expectations from it. Sadly, the weak writing pulls the film down in such a way, it simply provides no chance for the lead actors to save it. The proceedings is simply devoid of any fun. The songs however I couldn't enjoy in the film thanks to all the insta reels as they felt over exposed. The writing is predictable from the word go and overacting in the courtroom is something I don't find funny at any circumstances. Sara Ali Khan and Vicky Kaushal were good and has a good supporting cast yet the emotions remain superficial throughout for the actors to make it work.

I adore the film's depiction of middle-class families and their everyday struggles in a lighthearted manner. Most of the comedic moments are indeed over-the-top and delivered with exaggerated enthusiasm, but they still manage to create genuinely humorous situations.
The film's downfall lies not in its intention but rather in the script's lack of clarity and ambition. Additionally, I feel the family dynamic is terribly underplayed, which in turn makes the dramatic scenes and the emotions within them feel superficial, or rather half-baked in a sense.
Good for passing the time, but nothing exemplary to write home about.
