White Ant

I had the pleasure to watch this film online as one of the more than 60 short films during the Sundance Festival 2023. I am a short films lover and I enjoy them as much as I can. For 15 minutes, the story is smoothly written and it is fascinating how it makes you be very curious about those ants. Shalini Adnani did a great job. In addition to the performance of Denzil Smith, who is an outstanding actor. He was part of the TV series Delhi Crime. Love how is "very" curious too about those ants.

About the score by Hollie Buhagiar. Great choice. Great photography as well. Enjoy how the purple lights, in my opinion, gives the story a little bit of magic and sacred too.

White Ant is about a man taking care of his late father's estate. As he grapples with the past and its place in his life, he faces a termite infestation which threatens to destroy all evidence of said past. An ethereal soundscape spreads across the film, inviting us into a world that is comfortable and familiar, yet somehow completely foreign. This mirror's the protagonist's feelings as he visits a place he once knew like the back of his hand, only to find it somehow cold and distant, turning into a memory in front of his eyes. Denzil Smith brings with him such gravitas and humanity. White Ant is a wonderful short film and well-worth your time.
