Mistura

I saw this film at the Newport Beach Film Festival in a theater, and it is truly magnificent. The characters are intriguing and well-developed, and Barbara Mori has an incredible presence and an emotional depth that is mesmerizing. The script is fantastic, the art direction is perfect, and the film is quite simply a masterpiece.

Rarely does a foreign language film make a viewer forget he or she doesn't speak the language, but that is precisely what this film achieves. The visuals are so rich, and the diverse languages and cultural references are so natural and authentic to the story that the film defies much of the conventions of a foreign language film. I don't want to give away too much because it is journey any viewer should take without any preconceived notions.

I heard later that the film won the Newport Beach Film Festival, and I was not surprised. I hope this film sweeps all of the awards because Ricardo de Montreuil and his film, cast and crew deserve them.
