I personally enjoyed the "darker" take on Sherlock Holmes. Originally envisioned a horror type setting from Sherlock after reading The Hound of Baskerville when I was younger. In addition to that, I also thought seeing vulnerability and insight into some of Holmes' personal struggles added a nice human element to the overall film. Les Best's performance was captivating as Sherlock along with Taylor King's. Thought the villain character was creative too. It's impressive that this is an indie film. I do know the director won San Antonio director of the year in 2024 and look forward to seeing more of his work in the future. Overall enjoyable film experience👍
Very well directed ,awesome lighting , and great Cinema ,this is a must see again . Love the wardrobe and time line in a dark mystery way . Director CJ Goodwin has done an amazing job on this one by choosing the best cast and crew for this amazing new classic film . Actor Les best (Sherlock ) has done an amazing performance for his role . This is like gold. They should play this in all theaters across country , this is an amazing film ,can't wait to see the second half of this amazing film, this Sherlock film is a must see , way different from others Sherlock's films. I give this film thumbs up.
Growing up I was never a Sherlock fan but after seeing this movie, it definitely changed my mind. The movie captures the emotional changes one goes through after a long career as a detective. As a retired police officer and combat veteran, I definitely related to Sherlock during his darker side. I never knew how many crazy and horrific cases he worked until I researched after. The main characters that told the story did an outstanding job along with the stunt/ fight team! I don't want to spoil anything but you definitely have to get out and watch it if you're a horror, thriller or mystery fan!
Definitely, and eye opening experience into the Psychological world of Sherlock Holmes. Enjoyed every suspenseful scene. Mr. Best was at his finest. Bravo work to cast and crew that made this film. Can't wait for Chapter 2. Seriously!! This movie was so beautifully done. I TRULY feel this is nothing short of a cinematic masterpiece-a breathtaking exploration of time, memory, and the human experience. This film ingeniously intertwines various timeframes, weaving together lives and emotions in a way that feels profoundly nostalgic and universally relatable. It's a deeply sentimental journey that mirrors our own experiences, drawing parallels to the joys, struggles, and fleeting moments that define us all. Bravo work C. J. You done it again...
Maybe you're one of the many mainstream American movie goers and thus might be skittish or apprehensive about seeing independent films.
Or, maybe you only see Hollywood blockbusters until a friend drags you to see an Indie film.
I myself am usually skeptical about Indie films as they often lack in proper sound, colorization, and editing. However this film, by the remarkably talented writer-director CJ Goodwyn, displayed quality sound, excellent colorization & tone (perfectly set for this dark and different psycho thriller) and first rate editing (think of the late Sally Menke of Tarantino's films).
Thank goodness! Or should I say thank Goodwyn?
From the intense and moving monologues of the Sherlock Holmes character (actor Les Best), to the perfectly timed musical score, I have to admit I was captivated... and I mean edge of the seat captivated throughout most of 'Mare of the Night'.
Dang! I am truly impressed by what comes out of the south Texas film industry.
EASY FOR ME TO RECOMMEND THIS FILM!

¿Sabías que...?
- CuriosidadesLes Best (Sherlock) achieved the wine bottle shot in one take as there was only a single wine bottle to shatter for it.
