    A much needed conversation starter

Blurring the Color Line shows a part of Chinese and Black history that is more relevant to today than ever. Education systems pick and choose what to teach in classrooms and the Afro-Asian dynamic is not one of them. This documentary opens the door to crucial conversations that can change this and will ultimately bring these communities together. The storytelling is so unique and refreshing because it has perspectives from both Chinese and Black interviewees. I really enjoyed this film and would recommend it for everyone!

    A relevant, inspiring film

I highly recommend this documentary! Watching this film changed my perspective on how we tackle the difficult topic of race. Instead of approaching fighting discrimination one marginalized group at a time, we should recognize the shared struggles. The Chinese community and Black community in the US experienced racism in overlapping ways, which are all addressed in Blurring The Color Line.

Please seek out this wonderful documentary

Please seek out this wonderful and important documentary. It's a documentary about Chinese living in Segregated south. The filmmaker uses her grandmother who is Chinese and lived in Georgia In 1927 as the through line to reflect on a subject matter not many are familiar with. I know too often a documentary with this subject matter will try to talk down to you, make you feel guilty for being ignorant of the history behind it, but not this film. The filmmaker takes on a more Micheal Moore than Ken Burns approach to this powerful story. She investigates her own family history as well as the society they lived in, interviewing historians and descendants of people who experienced the story first hand. But she is also able to keep this story with heavy weight lighthearted and easily palatable enough. Making the film an enjoyable and educational watch. It's a fine line that this film walked to perfection! If it was up to me I would show this film to all the middle schoolers during their history class about Jim Crow. I hope this gets a wide release very soon, looking forward to watching it again!

    Enlightening + Thought-provoking

This is a singular film about the rarely discussed topic of the Chinese experience in the segregated south. You'll be left with questions you've never thought of. It's engaging throughout and director Crystal Kwok is highly personable and engaging. Highly recommend!

A very thought provoking documentary about a very unique topic.

A really interesting documentary about multiple generations of Chinese families living in black neighborhoods during the Jim Crow era in the segregated South. So many important topics about the relationship between Black and Chinese communities. Fascinating to see elderly Chinese Americans speaking with southern accents!
