Anil Kumar Alla's Kalyanam Kamaneeyam is about an unemployed guy looking for a job but failing to find employment despite good qualifications. And how he is convinced to get married to his wife due to her mother being terminal and wanting to see her wedding. Despite, his wife supporting him initially, her boss passing bad comments about his work ethic causes her to suspect him and lose her faith in his sincerity. Then he needs to find a job to prove his sincerity.
The story is not the most novel, but it had potential to be a decent rom com. To be a decent rom com the director's first step would have been to cut the movie down to a 90 minute or 100 minute run time. At it's current state, the movie is too long and feels dragged out at parts.
The movie's message is fine and the comedy could have been written better. The jokes seem bland and cringey, getting Jabardasth writing into a movie doesn't usually work. The punches and one liners made me face palm a few times.
The best part of the movie is Santosh Shobhan and Priya Bhavani Shankar, and their chemistry. They make a great pair. Priya is really good in the role as a working woman and showcases the emotions of having an unemployed husband well. Santosh Shobhan is a good actor, he would have bright future, but he needs to pick up better scripts.
The movie takes some twists and turns to the final point. It did not need so much back and forth, some sequences seemed to be a little repetitive. Would have worked really well as a 100 minute film. The cinematography and production values are great though.
Overall, an average affair. Can watch for Santosh Shoban and Priya Bhavani Shankar. Could have been decent if not for the dragged out sequences and bland jokes.
