This movie had me laughing so hard, but also crying my eyes out whenever I wasn't laughing. I don't know how intentional that was, but watching this movie brought me back to the moments I truly lived these moments. I think many of us know how it feels, especially if you've experienced chronic homelessness like I have. Life in today's gig economy is soul crushing. And this film acknowledges that while trying to also pull you out of it by not just telling you you're not alone, but truly making you FEEL like you're not alone. It doesn't give unrealistic answers or solutions, it doesn't pretend like the ending is always happily ever after. But it does tell you that there is someone out there with you to make things just the littlest bit better. To make things just a little less harder. And that is worth sticking around.

Good Fortune is a breezy romantic comedy that delivers exactly what you'd expect: laughs, charm, and a feel-good story. The film thrives on its witty dialogue and the undeniable chemistry between the leads, which keeps the energy light and engaging throughout.
What stands out most is the movie's ability to mix humor with moments of genuine warmth. It doesn't try to reinvent the genre, but it embraces the classic rom-com formula in a way that feels refreshing rather than stale. The pacing is tight, the supporting cast adds plenty of flavor, and the overall vibe is colorful and uplifting.
If you're looking for a film that will put you in a good mood without demanding too much emotional investment, Good Fortune is a solid pick. It's the kind of movie perfect for a cozy night in.

Aziz Ansari's first feature is actually a pretty good one. It's a film that doesn't overstay it's welcome and has some good points to make about the class divide we face in the world currently. Also, it's actually funny, and not in a gross out, trying to shock you kind of way.
Firstly, the acting in the film was spot on. Most everyone did a great job in their respective roles. My only complaint, again, is Seth Rogan. He just can't act as anything other than him. That's all we get. I guess that's fine for the role, but I'm kinda sick of his schtick. Reeves did an excellent job with his role as Gabriel. His delivery was perfect.
Secondly, the film has surprisingly great use of color and composition. Aziz knew how to make these scenes pop as much as he could. I would like to see what he'd do with a bigger budget and locales.
Lastly, the story hit surprisingly close to home. It's a struggle that I, and millions of other people, have faced in my life and it was interesting to see it on screen in such a matter of fact way. Kudos to you Aziz for writing a funny AND realistic film. Only thing unrealistic is the ending. If given the choice myself, I'm not too sure I would have made the same decision the main character does.
Overall, I would recommend it. It was thought provoking, but in a light hearted way. The themes were heavy but the cast and the comedy do a good job of carrying you through til the end. Plus, you have Keanu Reeves as an angel who smokes, drinks, eats tacos and dances without a care in the world.
3.5 guardian angels out of 5.

Good Fortune is funny, charming, but heavy with its themes.
The writing is great. The characters are all very likeable and no matter how much money one has, they can relate to all of them in one way or another. This script doesn't want to hide its themes. The film is heavily anti-capitalist or at least it heavily criticizes it. Usually I hate when movies preach, but it totally worked here, because this film is a very funny comedy. To be exact, the first half is very slow, but the back half is just utter fun.
As I said the first half is slow and also messy. I wasn't fan of the way the little time jumps occured and the way they were edited. I think some of those scenes could've been cut. They tried to edit them like a slow montage, but on the one hand they slowed the movie down and on the other hand the editing was too fast there and there was no comedic timing. The cinematography is great though. The camera movement is restrained, but the angles and the lighting are awesome. The production design and the acting performances are great too, while the soundtrack is awesome.
Good Fortune is a great comedy with heavy themes that rather elevate the comedy than ruin it.

What I love about his movie is that they don't follow the old cliche "Money don't buy happiness". The trio had an adequate performance that fits the movie and the downfall of an angel as an underpaid worker is one of the funniest things ever that will be etched in my mind.

Aziz Ansari's Good Fortune is a clever balancing act. On the surface it plays like a light and funny comedy, full of sharp dialogue and easy laughs, but beneath that there is a thoughtful and layered story. Arj and Jeff both follow the rules of society by getting their degrees, yet one falls through the cracks while the other is cushioned by privilege. The film quietly highlights how uneven the playing field really is and does so without ever feeling preachy.
Having experienced periods of struggle myself, showering at the gym and even living out of my car, I felt surprisingly seen in this story. Watching Jeff try to survive under those same conditions was both validating and moving, while still managing to be entertaining. Aziz has clearly done his homework, capturing the reality of these situations with subtlety and empathy. The result is a film that makes you laugh while also staying with you long after the credits.

Written, Directed AND starring Aziz Ansari Good Fortune tells the story of Arj (Ansari) a down on his luck guy, working 2 or 3 low paid jobs, struggling to meet ends meet, so much so that he's living in his car... but you know, he's still a nice, charming, funny guy.
Meanwhile, Seth Rogen plays a tech millionare / trust fund rich guy, who spends his days in his mansion, going between his cold plunge and his sauna, and hiring task workers on those task apps to do every day tasks like, clean out his garage.
That's how those guys meet. Arj is hired as an assistant to Jeff.
Meanwhile meanwhile, Keanu Reeves is watching from the sidelines as Gabriel, a literal Angel, however Gabriel isn't quite getting the job satisfaction he craves as his sole purpose, is to stop people from crashing cars while texting and driving.
He wants to be more involved, he wants to 'guide a lost soul'
So against the instructions of his Angel Manager (played by Sandra Oh) he does just that,
He steps in and attempts to show Arj that even his life, has meaning and hope..... he does this by body swapping (or should I say life swapping) Arj and Jeff.
So Arj becomes the rich tech guy with the mansion, and Jeff becomes the gig worker living in his car.
(breath) thats more or less the plot ... comedy, mishaps, and life lessons follow
First of all, its great to see an original comedy like this get a cinema release. I would have expected this to be straight to streaming, so kudos to the powers that be for putting this in cinemas.
Keanu is perfect casting for this type of Angel (given that he's widely regarded as one of the nicest guys in Hollywood).
Aziz & Seth do well also but they're staying well within their comfort zone, Keanu's character is the one who stands out(but, he is plating an Angel while the other 2 are playing humans, so... he's got some of the best lines and moments
The script and dialogue is sharp and believable, doesn't feel forced at any point (if you haven't seen Master of None on Netflix, its a great show that really showcases the writing skills of Ansari)
Theres actually a GQ video (I'll link to it below) with Keanu, Seth and Aziz where they talk about hanging out, rehearsing and going over the script.... you can tell these guys have an affinity for each other and that comes across on screen in spades.
It clocks in at just over 90 mins so it doesn't overstay its welcome length wise.
Where this movie falters, is in its tone.
Its a little tone deaf at times, with the overall message (money doesn't = happiness)
The very REAL struggle in today's economy, the cost of living crisis, working multiple jobs yet still having to live in your car... this is a real world problem, and it just feels like its made light, a little too light in this movie.
Don't get me wrong, it IS funny, I did enjoy it for the most part, but I couldn't shake the feeling that they missed the mark with this element, whatever line, whatever balance they were trying to strike with this element.... I think they missed the mark.
So, overall it is pretty funny if it a little tone deaf at times
7/10 for Good Fortune.

I just attended an early screening of Good Fortune and absolutely loved every minute of it. For Aziz Ansari to have written, directed, and starred in this film is nothing short of amazing. His ability to weave real-world scenarios into smart, heartfelt humor is remarkable.
From the very first scene to the final moment, the movie never missed a beat. Not once did I catch myself wondering when it would end - I was fully engaged the entire time. It's refreshing to see a film that knows exactly how long to stay, delivering its message without dragging on like so many modern releases.
I have to give major credit to Seth Rogen, whose performance genuinely impressed me. He balanced his natural comedic energy with moments of real emotional depth, showing range I hadn't expected. And of course, Keanu Reeves was fantastic - the man can slip into any role effortlessly.
What makes Good Fortune stand out most is how it tackles big, timely themes - the rise of AI and its impact on jobs, labor unions, wealth disparities, and even the illusion of success - yet never feels heavy-handed or depressing. Through the journey of the main character, Arj, the film reminds us that getting everything we think we want doesn't always lead to happiness. True fulfillment comes from appreciating what we have and finding purpose where we are.
Ultimately, Good Fortune delivers a powerful message of love, resilience, and gratitude - all wrapped in humor that keeps you laughing while quietly moving your heart. It's the kind of film that leaves you smiling and reflective as you walk out of the theater.

Aziz Ansaris Good Fortune is a fresh movie starring Keanu Reeves as an angel. The movie gives food for thought to various aspects of life not matter how you live it. The dialogue's are -as the movie itself- fresh. Especially the frames where Keanu Reeves is performing are brilliant and witty. It's casted perfectly. One could argue it's an eat the rich movie but it just plays with the idea. A fresh movie in a year with little fresh ideas. Go enjoy it in your local theater an rewatch it for a deeper dive later on a streamer.

Saw right after Black Phone 2 - This helped me feel calm after a disturbing movie. Great experience fairly funny, relatable, and great entertainment! I don't know why couple older folks didn't seem to laugh once although there was only a few parts that were really funny most was unfortunate circumstances and life lessons.

They fully banked on Keanu just being the most lovable man, and it works. I can't imagine this movie working with any other actor in his role.
The movie takes a little time to set up, but once they get into the high concept storyline, there are a lot of good laughs, especially between Seth and Keanu.
If you're a fan of Aziz's style of humor or if you just want some Keanu content, then you'll have fun watching this movie.

My apologies, as much as I like Aziz Ansari's style, I just couldn't get into this one.
It's clear Ansari has a good vision as the premise and atmosphere does offer some interesting concepts. A narrative about an angel revolving around the themes about everyday people, class struggles and the societal themes of people in the world is pretty good concept. Throughout, Ansari does offers some solid directing on the atmosphere, camerawork and structure throughout. As there are some solid social commentary and humor aspects that I did enjoy.
However, what prevents this movie from being good is the writing, uninteresting characters and faulting editing choices. The writing feels clunky when it handles certain aspects and it's quite predictable, as if you kind of know where things will be heading. While it does have some good parts, as a whole, the script really is lacking. The performances are solid as Keanu Reeves, Aziz Ansari, Seth Rogan, Sandra Oh, Keke Palmer and the rest of the cast does their best to offer quirky and fun chemistry between each other. But unfortunately, the performances can't really save it's uninteresting and at times, annoying characters.
Some of the production designs are really cheap, and the musical score is decent. The editing choices really is messy, as if it almost feels like a poorly student film getting it's work in the process.
At the end of the day, Ansari does have some solid talents as a director and his humorous persona and style is still there, but the script and structure really didn't do justice to the subject.

Good Fortune boasts impeccable casting, a hysterical script, and more heart than most films dare to offer. Its sharp wit and understated dialogue shine throughout, delivering moments of genuine introspection without ever feeling heavy-handed.
In an era saturated with existentialist films, Good Fortune distinguishes itself by refusing to take life-or itself-too seriously. It invites viewers to step back, laugh in the face of adversity, and find levity in the chaos.
At first glance, the characters may appear two-dimensional or overly familiar. But as the story unfolds, it becomes clear how meticulously Aziz crafted each one. They're fresh yet layered, revealing unexpected depth and nuance as the film progresses. His thoughtful storytelling-something I've long admired-elevates the narrative and spares it from becoming just another formulaic life-swap tale.
The writing, while subtle, often serves the story well, keeping it grounded and cohesive. Still, I found myself wishing it had taken more risks. The film hints at satire-touching on corporate greed and the plight of the working class-but these themes feel underdeveloped. Aziz introduces these ideas but stops short of provoking real conversation or emphasizing their weight. There's no call to action, only a quiet resignation, as if the challenge was too great to fully confront.
That said, Aziz excels in prioritizing the existential elements that make his characters feel relatable. He navigates a familiar plot structure with finesse, infusing it with sharp humor, a seasoned and well established cast that understands the power of good timing, and a charming simplicity that makes the film feel both intimate and universal.

I really, really wanted to like this movie. The three leads all seem capable of making this kind of flick in their sleep. However, the movie never gels into a real flow. Every scene felt like three takes were filmed and then moving on. Even Keanu leaning into himbo status wasn't enough. The six rating is generous.

I've been really excited for this film for a while and it seemed like a super fun premise with a great cast. I'll say this the film is just a ton of fun throughout its runtime and I was absolutely dying with some of the comedy throughout the film. I was also excited to see Aziz Ansari and his directing debut and I think he did a great job and he was also hilarious in this film as well for the most part. My favorite part of the film has to be Seth Rogen and Keanu's Reeves character chemistry throughout the film and they are absolutely hilarious together and both deliver great comedic performances here. I also found the relationship between Aziz Ansari's character and Keke Palmers character to be alright but I wish they would've expanded on it some more and felt like they were rushing this dynamic in the film. Obviously the comedy here is great there's so many great and hilarious jokes throughout the movie which just had me dying throughout the movie as well. The story is good as well for the most part and I really like the story they are telling here of how rough this world has made it for people to even scrap by and how many struggles so many people have to go through just to get by. The writing here does feel a little off at times though and some moments just fly by for no reason and I wish this movie would've expanded more on some things instead of just going by super fast paced. I also think. I also think the movie was a little too short for me as there's so many interesting things they have here like I would've loved to see more. But overall this movie is a hilarious time and I know it'll have some people absolutely dying of laughter in this film.

I hope Aziz gets to make more movies, because he knows what to behind and in front of a camera.
The movie also very relatable, there are several moments throughout the movie I saw myself.
I do recommend the movie.

O Aziz Ansari
LIKES:
Decent Pace
Fun Acting
Decent Material
Keanu Reeves Is Well-Utilized
Heart
Fun
Funny At A Lot Of Times
A Novel Idea
Summary:
What can I say, this movie is led by some extreme comedy stars, and you expect a movie to be a very aggressive comedy; however, Good Fortune surprised me in terms of some surprising restraint. The film is a fun little spin on It's A Wonderful Life, a novel idea that seems blasphemous to mess with a classic, but, for me, it managed to do it in a surprisingly respectful way. The novel idea opens up a broad canvas to paint upon with jokes, as they try to address material that I find very relevant to the modern-day audience. Good Fortune is about looking at life in the glass-half-full case, but quickly shows that you can only hold that positivity for so long before reality catches up. Throughout the movie, the trio faces a lot of things that life can present with dialogue that is both entertaining and thoughtful, and it is filled with heart that feels much deeper than I anticipated in an Ansari comedy. Moral lessons are ever-present in this movie, but often not too in your face, preachy, or that cheese factor '90s sitcoms thrived in. No, there is authenticity, and the lessons are baked into the comedic moments, presented in a manner that feels natural, with the fun elements this movie promised being better than most award-winning speeches.
And that's the nature of this movie, it's really fun and funny. Good Fortune blesses us with a lot of silliness that is maximized by the comedic talents of the cast. The main trio work so well together, and have a chemistry that feels like an authentic friendship between these odd bedfellows. Rogen is back in his comedy elements, the loud, obnoxious rants that his gruff voice capitalizes on may seem excessive, but I felt there was a good balance that I enjoyed giggling at when he was faced with the harshness of real life. Ansari is fun, the whiny voice and hyperbolic shouting perfect for some of the writing, making me laugh when his small form is panicking, or having to realize what he has been dealt. But it's Keanu who accomplishes the most for me. He may not have the same range or energy as his counterparts, but I like that, as his monotone voice is a great reset that counters the manic elements of the others. They all present the material in fun ways, and I had a great time with their intermingling in this very odd, novel idea. It all runs at a decent, entertaining pace, delivering a heartfelt, simple plot in a relatively decent amount of time. Something I think will appeal to a lot of people out there.
DISLIKES: Not Fully Fleshed Out Character Utilization Is Meh Some Of the Subplots Are Spastic Some Course Language/Drug Comedy Is Not My Style The Finish Is Okay, But Not Awesome Could Have Been Funnier Summary All the fun aside, the movie does still have some limitations that I think may not be as impressive to the general audience. While it dutifully handles the material, the story feels lacking in details and not fully fleshed out in terms of the plot and delivery. I know comedy films aren't always meant to have the most elaborate stories, but something about Good Fortune feels discombobulated and not fully flowing as well as the lines are. One part is the character utilization. The primary trio of guys is decently done, but at times, there are gaps in their stories that feel displaced until they semi-naturally stitch themselves back into the story. Other characters played by the two girls on the poster are not the worst, having moments that steal the show for brief minutes before they sort of fall into the background. I felt there was more there, perhaps elements left on the cutting room floor or lost in a script rewrite. The subplots are relatively weak at times, and despite Ansari's talent with several factors, some of these stories felt weak, awkward, and oddly included. Such spastic writing can be annoying at times, but the fun the script instills works to distract and mitigate some of the shortcomings. As for the comedy elements, most work for me, but there are times when drugs and illicit language get excessive; sometimes, they are crudely introduced when not necessary. Most won't care for this limitation, but for those not impressed with such comedy, you have your warning. As for the finish, it's not bad, and actually kind of cute, heartwarming, and realistic, as it delivers a fitting finale. Was it the best? That's for the viewer to decide, but I think there was a little bit more they could have done to help bring just a little better closure. It's nitpicky, I know, but this sort of compounds to that there felt to be a missing element I would have liked to see more of. To answer the question of whether it could have been funnier, I believe the answer is yes. Again, I did enjoy the balanced humor, but with such material, there felt to be more unique directions with the humor that could have exploited these actors' talents just a bit more to feel unique.
The VERDICT: Good Fortune is indeed a movie that is surprisingly tasteful in its handling of such complex material, but still kept things fun, moving, and enjoyable. To have such a heart despite the crude outlook of life is not easy to achieve, and the strong cast took the lines and optimized their utilization to have me laughing a lot during the film. Alongside a good pace, entertaining concepts, and an enjoyable performance by Reeves, there is a lot of positive things to say about this movie. However, the movie's primary limitation is the sense of incomplete storytelling, primarily with the organization of the subplots and characters. As these elements stumbled about, I found that there was something off in terms of everything piecing together to fully capitalize on the laughs and material. A little better character use, some better focus on the twist to the story, and some more creative comedy could have further made this comedy stand out. Regardless, I think this film is going to be fun for a lot of people, especially in the balance of sincerity with stoner-comedy vibes. I think it's a fun one to hit the theater on, and would encourage you to go, so long as you avoid bringing little ears. My scores for Good Fortune are: Action/Comedy/Fantasy/Romance: 7.5 Movie Overall: 6.5-7.0.
Good Fortune" is far more than its high-concept swap; it's a wonderfully scripted exploration of the core human condition. Writer, director, and star Aziz Ansari has masterfully woven a tapestry of the human condition -Heart, Humor, Humility, Shame, Despair, Joy, and ultimately Love-where every emotion resonates and hits profoundly close to home. The film's pacing ensures nothing drags, shadowing the script's depth and leaving you continuously wanting more for each character condition. Its genuine heart connects acutely with the anxieties, generational divides, and cultural divisions of today, sitting right on the edge between humor and palpable fear. Keanu Reeves delivers perhaps one of his finest, most texture-rich performances, acting as the unexpected anchor that elegantly holds the entire film together. Seth Rogen truly shines, delivering a performance within boundaries we can relate to. Ansari, take bow, I highly recommend the journey.

Good Fortune is a great high concept comedy that's at its strongest when its writer, director & leading man takes a backseat in front of the camera so an unexpectedly hilarious double act can take centre stage and deliver most of the best moments. The class commentary is simple but relatable and the jokes land consistently enough to more than make up for a lack of belly laughs, plus it's got a real heart.
Aziz Ansari is really good in the lead role thanks to his likeability and well timed wit. Keanu Reeves is wonderful as he brings an adorable naivety to his angelic character whilst delivering every line a way that's uniquely him and Seth Rogen is playing to his strengths in a more restrained manner. The winning rapport between these two quickly becomes the best part of the film.
Aziz Ansari's direction impresses as a debuting filmmaker since this looks quite nice especially during some scenes set at night and his writing sets up a lot of elements that pay off nicely. Carter Burwell's sparingly used score fits and the same applies to the soundtrack to create a solid balance between the two. The pacing is comfortable so it feels its run time without it ever becoming an issue.

The problem with Good Fortune , the mediocre urban-fantasy-comedy film w/ Keanu Reeves & Aziz Ansari (I thought he was canceled?) is that from the premise you can easily predict every plot point. Rich people have it easy? A wealthy guy doesn't want to give it up? LA is costly? Come on. 6/10 bc Keanu.

For a movie that is listed as an action, comedy.... There is little to no action or humor.
The movie starts slow and never picks up. My wife and I thought it may pick up once the "switch" happened but it never did. I nodded off at one point. The plot is very simple. The pacing is really slow including the dialog. I never connect with the characters. Just meh all around.
If we weren't at the theater we would have changed to another movie or TV show about 1/2 way in. Hard pass on this one.

GOOD FORTUNE 2025
Aziz Ansari steps into a writer and directors role for the first time and has a constructed a new movie role for keanu reeves who actually portrays this role fairly well as angel from heaven, the movie did remind at times of his character of ted from his hit movie bill and ted back in 1989,basically it's about a low-ranking angel called Gabriel and his only responsibility is basically saving lives and stopping people texting while driving .
Gabriel is then in search for his lost soul but then breaks a few rules and then finds himself suddenly interfering em with two separate lives, of characters rich and wealthy Jeff ( Seth Rogen ) and Unsurprisingly, Arj (Aziz Ansari ) A poor man with nothing, who is reluctant to be set-up by Gabriel and to switch thier lives from poor povety to wealth and power .The movie is nicely shot, in the similar visions to A Christmas carol ,but it was abit of let down in its star power with an underdeveloped script. It's got good intentions and some good comedy but only makes up to being a mediocre time at the movies.
We review this 6.4 / 10.

In short:
Smart, funny and mildly satire slice of life that reflects on today's society. Worth coming back to rewatch for the jokes.
In detail: Aziz's direction is clearly heavy on the writing side, it's like watching a simple film that is filled with emotion-driven jokes and script from one to another.
The actors don't even seem to have the need to act out deeply for its delivery on the satire jokes-which is a good thing and that makes the performances look effortlessly funny. Production-wise, the film looks pretty simple and straightforward in terms of audiovisual.
This is a good watch and safe in a family or friends situation, a collection of mildly spicy jabs of jokes that will totally make you laugh.
