Fans of original, off-beat comedy rejoice!
This movie was a wild ride that I won't soon forget. It's absurd, side-splittingly hilarious, and even weirdly beautiful, cinematic and profound at times. These guys clearly give no Fs. It's so refreshing and makes for a truly unique viewing experience.
Trying to avoid spoiling... But here are some highlights for me: The performances, the special effects, the animation, THE ENDING!!!
I laughed, I cried (from laughing so hard) and I questioned the meaning of my existence and the entire Universe. I LOVE this movie and can't wait for what else these guys come up with.

Kid Cactus is the comedy troupe for the Millennial generation the way Monty Python was for the Boomers. 'What is Art' is a compilation of comedy sketches by a funny and talented group of artists and I was blown away by their creativity. The sketches themselves are a mix of both absurdist humor and more traditional observational comedy. There are some truly laugh-out-loud moments, and the film never feels like it's dragging. It's funny, clever, and self-aware. If you're a fan of sketch comedy, then you'll definitely want to check this film out. If you are easily offended don't bother, but I can not wait until the next production!
I didn't know what to expect from this movie, but BOY was I pleasantly surprised! I'm a big fan of Tim and Eric and I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson, and the sketches in this movie are all just as bizarre, surreal, and laugh-out-loud funny as any of my favorite sketches in either of those shows. Something that usually bums me out about sketch comedy movies is that if even one sketch or premise is off, it brings down the whole movie, but What is Art manages to serve up constant laughs, original, funny premises, and noteworthy performances that all kept me invested throughout the whole film. I'm excited to see what these filmmakers come up with next!
So much more than a sketch comedy movie, this is clearly a labor of love for friends by friends who are fluent in the language of the artistic odd ball outlier. It's an extremely funny and beautiful showcase of the talent and skill that these filmmakers possess. The crew behind this project is made up of rare precious gems and seeing this movie is your opportunity to see them truly catch light. I watched this movie twice the day it was released. I felt connected to it instantly and it is helping me recommit to my own artistic instincts no matter how unexpected or aesthetically strange they may be. If you love hard laughs and surprising set pieces and avant-garde slapstick brilliance then this is a must watch for you and your buddies.
This was such a fun ride! I was cackling the whole way through, except when I was going "Oooooooo" at the crazy, hypnotic animation or falling silent as I contemplated life's biggest questions. Loved all the physical comedy bits especially and how unhinged the sketches got. I will be thinking about The Mattchelor for a long time and reflecting on how truly so many people in our society are named Matt. If you watch this movie, you WILL feel stoned and that WILL feel good and okay. Some very weird minds behind this project. It's really just inspiring to see people in their element pushing the boundaries of their art, and it made me want to do more of that! Recommend!
