First Two Episodes - Amazing
TL:DR - Beautiful, but requires your full attention right off the bat.
Alright, it's a great visual experience; the visuals are dazzlingly beautiful.
The transmigration, gray fog, nighthawk introduction, psychic test, ravings and everything else is animated superbly.
I had some doubts regarding the pacing, which is alleviated slightly now that I've watched the first 2 episodes, but it's likely too fast for most anime-onlys. Make sure you read subs if you want to understand!
I feel as though they put less emphasis on the situation Klein found himself in. Just a brief mention of a problem at hand to which any normal person, including Klein in the source material, has some more thoughts to share on. Especially the fast-spoken chinese dub, which is admittedly the best chinese dub I've ever come across, still a bit fast though.
Speaking of the dubs, a non-simultaneous release of other languages may really hurt the series, alongside the poor Crunchyroll marketing and both episodes being premium-only.
That's about the only critique I could come up with, yeah it's really good. The chinese voice acting itself sounds very good, directing is amazing, soundtrack is godlike and we can already catch glimpses of The Fool's aura.
It's a very promising exposition with transcendent potential, hence my high rating, which could still vary if I find more striking issues. Very recommendable.

My thoughts as a novel reader
Yeah, they skipped many things.
However, these things aren't important (klein eating, spending 3 chapters to buy his cane, 3 chapters to buy his house).
Its a premier, so it need to be entertaining.
They did a really good job about the pacing.
If you don't understand anything, don't worry, it was the same, maybe even worse, for us reader.
The animation is really, really good. I think I never saw that before. There is alot of details, in the flowers, for exemple. The song, especially the ending, are incredible too.
As a reader, it's clearly not a disappointment, and I didn't think the animation would be this good.
10/10.

If you're looking for a generic shonen/isekai that takes your mind off things, this isn't it. An incredible and complex series!
Review of the anime based on the novel "The Lord of Mysteries."
This is truly the anime of the year. Better than "Solo Leveling," better than "To Be Hero X," better than "Takopi's Original Sin," which for me are the other three best series of the year.
Knowing beforehand that the animation was 30,000 frames per episode when "Solo Leveling," for example, had reached just over 10,000, it was a visual guarantee.
However, as someone unfamiliar with this world, I can't help but express my surprise and dismay upon watching the series.
If there's one thing we can all agree on, it's that you don't understand anything in the first episodes! It's a whole new world, its construction, its laws, everything; it's very difficult to follow this world-building. But once we're inside, I think it's safe to say this construction has never been seen before, or at least I could compare it to Harry Potter or The Lord of the Rings, and that's saying something. But I can't think of any other comparison when I see this complexity.
Is it an isekai? Yes, it seems like it is, with hints of cosmic horror at times. But its rules are completely invented, and the power scales with the sequences and their levels are insane.
As for the plot, each episode is better than the last and a visual and narrative gem.
It's an anime where deaths are felt and no one is safe at any moment, whether due to madness or being murdered by someone.
I mean, even in the last episode, you might think everything is final.
There are a thousand things I haven't understood, and I suppose they'll be explained in later seasons... apparently, we'll have to wait, and that's the downside of it all.
Highly recommended for anyone interested in watching something that isn't lighthearted and can even be repellent in its original language. Aside from that, it's one of the season's gems.

Lotm beginner rating (I was too lazy to read the whole novel)
I'm reviewing this series as an absolute beginner to lotm, I just read a few chapters before starting the anime.
The thing I'd like to say first is that the animation style is just breathtaking in my opinion. Frankly I just stare at it with my mouth wide open.
The plot is being fast so far (first three episodes) so sometimes I am not following at all but I think it will progressively get better.
The characters are very unique and interesting in design so far but I think its a bit too early to comment on the writing of them because its just a few episodes and it can get better (and I believe it will).
The last thing I will comment on is the world building and the idea itself, I have never seen anything quite like it. And that itself is very worth watching the anime and keeps me going.

Praise the Fool
I've just finished Season 1 of Lord of the Mysteries, and I have to say, it's a remarkable adaptation. The production quality is absolutely top-tier, with meticulous attention to atmosphere, lighting, and character design. Shimei has really captured the gothic, steampunk mood of the original work, and the emotional beats land surprisingly well for a compressed 13-episode season. For this IP, I honestly don't think any other domestic studio could have delivered a better version. The animation itself is breathtaking. The fight sequences are intense and visually spectacular, but occasionally the action can be hard to follow. Some explanatory dialogue or brief narration could enhance clarity without compromising the atmosphere. Meanwhile, the non-action scenes are sometimes visually "busy"; leaving a little more space for viewers to breathe would improve pacing. Overall, despite these minor criticisms, Lord of the Mysteries Season 1 delivers a high-quality adaptation that respects its source material. It's both emotionally compelling and visually impressive, and I believe it can stand confidently on the international stage. I'm eagerly looking forward to Season 2.
