Not the worst, but....
I decided to stream this right after watching a topnotch, high quality movie. It is important to do that, so one recognizes the difference. And this ranks near the bottom of movies. In many ways, it wasn't clear what they had in mind. An over the top creature movie, or part lifetime movie with a sappy back story. Bubba is out of prison, but as a felon, could not be with his daughter and her son. But if he is able to kill the alligator, he could get a pardon, and a clean record. And there is a reason the alligator is so mean. The monster alligator is not well done, the acting is stilted, and stereotypes galore. The movie seems to plod along. It could easily be made into a 20 minute movie and lose none of the story.
Mst3k Worthy
We watched this movie as Gator Lake. It's B Movie material without the 'perks'. The plot is very weak. If your looking for something like Lake Placid, this one might not be it. We ended up finishing it only because we were too far in to stop. Definitely worthy to be featured as a potential Mystery Science Theater episode. 😁👍
Better than expected
I put this movie on simply to kill some time. Surprisingly it was better than expected. Now, this is somewhat of a typical B movie creature feature. My rating of this flick takes that into account. What this movie has going for it: the characters are mostly believable and help keep one engaged in the movie. The acting is consistent throughout the movie and for the most part is pretty good. The storyline is fairly straight forward (like most creature features). The movie has an awesome soundtrack that helps with the overall flow of the movie. The negatives: Like most creature features little effort is given to give much depth to the characters, with the exception of the protagonist. The flick definitely needed more creature for this creature feature to give some intensity. Overall, it's entertaining, with a bit of humor.
An intriguing enough but ultimately flawed creature feature
After a series of vicious attacks, the mayor of a small Florida town wants to hire a vengeful ex-con with intimate knowledge of the situation to hunt and kill the vicious alligator in the local lake, killing anyone who comes into contact with it and trying to save the community from the creature.
This was a decent enough if somewhat problematic creature feature. Among the better elements of this one comes from the idea of making the surrounding drama of the situation to make for a worthwhile setup. The multitude of backstories involved here makes for a sympathetic hero on the hunt for the killer gator, from his prison incarceration and subsequent release, the family drama with his daughter about to go into the military, and the promise made to the family of those he was working with when he got sent to prison, makes everything feel far more impactful than just going out finding the vicious alligator. As it's mostly centered around the race to get the gator killed so that his personal life can be squared away, the drama of the situation is far more front and center as it gets closer to the timeline imposed on him to stop the creature. Those are handled with some intriguing gator attacks that are quite enjoyable, featuring the practical gator prop interacting with the victims in graphic means, giving this kind of interaction a fun enough time. There are some issues with this one that hold it down. The main issue here is that, while the series of dramatic interactions that give him a worthwhile series of reasons to stop the gator also cause this one a seriously sluggish and dragged-out pacing. The first hour is spent more on the backstory buildup about why he's so troubled after being released from prison, the struggle to come to terms with the successful member of the community who has capitalized on screwing him over, and the need to sort everything out makes for a generally dull time here. With hardly any action in this section, with it spent on these outside factors, it makes this section come off far less interesting than it should, considering the topic at hand. Moreover, the final half is just a mess with some egregiously awful choices to signal he's become obsessed with revenge that really makes us turn against him for his actions, and even the big confrontation with the gator is so underwhelming that there are genuine attacks that last longer, making it seem questionable why it didn't happen sooner. These are enough to lower this one overall.
Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Language and Graphic Violence.

Garbage
I don't even know where to begin describing this film. There are movies where you know after just a few minutes that they're simply awful. With this one, it might be the nonexistent acting. The sluggish camerawork. The complete lack of suspense. Or the story itself.
In any case, the film couldn't end fast enough for me. And again, a warning... even last week's weather forecast is more exciting.
