Despite the fact of never having heard about the 2023 horror movie "House of VHS" (aka "Ghosts in the Machine"), as I stumbled upon it here in 2025, of course I opted to give the movie a fair chance. After all, I am a huge fan of all things horror. But truth be told, I was not really harboring any expectations to the movie.
The script and storyline was slow paced, uneventful and downright boring. I had to stop the movie twice, go do something else and then return to watch more, because I was getting bored senseless with the monotonous and pointless narrative.
I was not familiar with the actors and actresses on the cast list. And while it was certainly not outstanding acting performances, I will say that the performances were fair, taking into consideration the limitations imposed upon the cast by an inferior script.
Visually, then you're not in for anything grand.
If you enjoy horror movies, you should not waste 83 minutes of your life on this dumpster fire. Some of us suffered through this movie, literally, so you don't have to; you're very welcome.
My rating of writer and director Gautier Cazenave's 2023 movie "House of VHS" lands on a generous two out of ten stars.
