Enjoyable!

First off, I love Jay Baruchel and he nails his role as the sarcastic screw up, it's hilarious! This mini series includes a typical Christmas archetype of dysfunctional families that become more dysfunctional during the holidays, but it isn't over-acted or cheesy. It's fun, outrageous, and eventful. The ending is pretty farfetched, but the rest of the show makes up for it. Way more enjoyable than those terrible Christmas hallmark movies.

I hate sitcoms, but I'm enjoying this mini-series though it comes off as a sitcom.

Wasn't planning on watching it because I usually don't care for sitcoms and though this is a mini-series, it's still a sitcom type show.

I am pleasantly surprised on how much I'm enjoying this show. Maybe it's because I didn't have high expectations. But I like it.

The first show I wasn't sure if I was going to continue watching it. 2nd show it was becoming more interesting. 3rd & 4th I really enjoyed it.

I haven't watched the 5th/6th show yet. But I'm looking forward to it. ;-)

functional dysfunctional

The three adult children (Francois Arnaud, Chelsea Frei, Jay Baruchel) of Ann (Elizabeth Perkins) and Sean Moody Sr. (Denis Leary) have gathered for a family Christmas. Dan just broke up with girlfriend Ali. Cousin Marco has new girlfriend Cora. Dan develops feelings for Cora. Bridget cheated on her husband. Irresponsible Sean loses another job. Uncle Roger has new girlfriend Mukta. Secretly, Sean Sr. has cancer.

This should be one of those dysfunctional family holiday movies. Instead, it's been split into six episodes and then shown two at a time anyways. It works better as a movie together. Otherwise, this is fine and fits the genre well. The adult children are perfectly dysfunctional. Uncle Roger could be funnier if Mukta can play against him. There are some other minor characters who don't get the needed space. The other thing about a single movie would be to consolidate some of those minor characters. Overall, I love many of the main actors and this is a functional dysfunctional family holiday drama.

Jay Baruchel

Jay Baruchel is the reason I watch this show and give it a 9 out of 10. He is a grossly underused comedic actor.

Will keep watching

I've watched 6 episodes of The Moody's and I'll cont to watch if they keep producing them. It's a decent show. I do feel that a lot of the scenarios on have already been played out and it does get very cliche at points. Overall not bad.

Deck the halls with beer bottles and folly

The first episode was a hodgepodge of a dysfunctional family getting together a few days before Christmas. If you can imagine some of the most despicable acts that family and/or their friends can consider doing and/or acting upon their selfish instincts than maybe you will enjoy this. Believe it or not, Denis Leary who usually plays the lowest of all lowlifes, in this mini-series he plays the father named Sean Sr. Moody who tries to reign in his wild adult children. I found this first episode confusing and not funny. Rather, the director appeared to attempt to lower the actor's morals with bad behaviours, immature acts of petty crimes, and gratuitous infidelities all verbal of course since it is Christmas right?

If you enjoy Christmas camp/humour may I suggest you watch a rerun of Christmas With the Kranks (2004), Home Alone (1990), and/or National Lampoons Christmas Vacation (1989), instead of wasting your time on The Moody's Christmas.

My opinion...bah humbug.

Magic... Christmas & TV MAGIC

Oh my goodness. I thought I might be entertained but I did not expect to be enthralled by this amazing ensemble show! The dialogue is authentic. The characters are real. They all play off of one another in such an effortless way. The writing is spectacular. The acting is out of this world. I find myself rooting for each person and want the scenes to go on forever. What a phenomenal blend of humor, drama, romance, and love. Can we make sure that this show goes on forever? Pretty please?

What happened?

The original Moody series was fantastic. I was so excited for the new series. I'm halfway through the first new episode and I'm wondering who the hell edited this mess. There is absolutely no context to the original episodes. It's as if they jammed several shows into the first new episode. Apparently, they're not looking for new viewers and are relying only on people who watched the original limited few episodes. I watched those episodes and I don't remember everything that happened. The first episode is frantic and confusing. I'm going to hang In there because I loved the original episodes from what, two years ago? Fire the editor please and slow down the story a smidge.

Pretty great so far.

I'm only two episodes in but I'm ready to just watch all 6. I tuned in mainly for Dennis Leary (as I had not seen or read anything about it) but Jay Baruchel pretty much steals the show. Everyone does a great job. It's not sitcom, laugh out loud, joke after joke type of show. But it has humor, heart and is just enjoyable.

R.I.P. Moodys

The Moodys is a smartly written adult comedy that ended far too soon. I've always been a huge Dennis Leary fan, but this may be his best show ever. Impeccable casting and clever story lines make this the best scripted comedy I've seen in the last five years. It's a crime that Fox never really gave this show a chance. I think if Netflix featured The Moodys for a while it would quickly gain the same type of popularity that Schitt's Creek did a few years ago. I'm hoping against hope that FX, Netflix, or Hulu will come to their senses and renew this show like NBC did with Brooklyn 99. It's far too good a show to die after 14 episodes.

Something went very wrong here!

A lame, pallid, largely unfunny adaptation of an Australian comedy classic. Aside from losing most of the laughs, this American re-make lacks the charm and the family chemistry that made the original work. Amazingly, the younger leads are also nowhere near as attractive, which, given the romantic undercurrents, really matters. In fact, it's every bit as misguided and inept as the recent American adaptation of that other Aussie classic, Rake. Clearly, the American writers and producers don't have a clue about what makes these shows work, which rather begs the question of why they buy the rights.

Pitch perfect casting in a smart adult sitcom

I gave this show a shot because I've always enjoyed Dennis Leary's shows (Rescue Me, The Job). While the pilot was a tad slow in places, episode 2 picked up nicely. By #3, I was laughing out loud. Not only is Leary terrific, the rest of the ensemble is hitting all the right notes. I eagerly await to see how the season develops. Throw a few f Bombs into the show and it could easily be at home on FX.

Murdered the original

Sometimes original programs from other countries don't need an American version to decipher humour. Check out the original Australian version and understand how Christmas works in a typical dysfunctional Aussie family and how ironic Xmas can be Downunder.

Irony is Australia's greatest asset, enjoy the original and then go back and watch this sub par attempt at this story with some great actors. Not the worst thing to watch but after being a fan of the Australian version why would I need another version of the same? On top of that I'm Australian and we ha stinking hot Summer Christmas's and that one of the privileges of the southern hemisphere.

Merry Xmas from Downunder

Season one is pure gold.

Season one is one of the greatest short seasons available anywhere. Pure enjoyment in every episode by every character.

Season two is mediocre. It meanders. It drops more from season one than it builds on and over all it just isn't very good. Barely worth watching.

Absolutely Loved It

I came here for Francois Arnaud and stayed for the entire Moody family. This mini tv series artfully captures what it means to come home for the holidays. The comedic timing was impeccable by all of the characters as well as the great writing and brilliant performances by all.

I think the relationship between the three Moody siblings was the best part. As someone who has multiple siblings, I could definitely relate to their dynamics- the sibling rivalry and yet always being there for one another.

It was great to see Francois in a more light hearted show and Josh Segarra was a nice surprise too- his character was hilarious!

Overall, great tv show! I've watched it a handful of times on Amazon Prime. I noticed the series has been greenlit for a second season! So excited to see where the Moody's take us next!

Well Done!!!

I ALWAYS loved Denis Leary and anything he has appeared in. The rest of the cast fit together perfectly...they almost seem like a real family. Offbeat and just downright weird storylines...I love this show. Give it a watch...enjoy!

Please stop america

This is one of the best Aussie Xmas short series and again American writers, producers etc crap all over a classic. The US cannot duplicate what makes Australian comedy and it's awful when they try. It loses so much, if you want to watch it watch the original.
