I really don't understand all the hate this show is getting. Maybe its from the people who read the books, I have just accepted TV adaptations will usually never please die hard fans of whatever book series is being made into a show. I for one though had a lot of fun watching the show and find myself eagerly waiting for season two. Don't let the hate scare you off it is a really fun show.
I find the plot to be quite entertaining and the characters to be a really well written. It has some good actors that are time tested and I feel like some of the actors in it make the show even better. All in all a good clean show that is a lot of fun.

The only books to ever turn movie and be successful in past 30 years, was Harry Potter & LOR. They both had large $ productions, the equivalent to this drama comedy was "The Help" and even then people took issue. Remember that when you watch the show or read below reviews.
Woof, now that that's out of the way here goes. The show is narrated by Margo Martindale, you may not recognize her name but her voice, 😔, soft and country with a discerning presence like the kind hearted, gentle aunt, mimi or even neighbor who is always there patiently to comfort you after being yelled at for spilling tea on your Sunday dress.
It's hard to get past the first episode, not the actors not the writing because we all have this innate distate for a slow story unfolding, everything is right now! Well that's NOT "Chicken Sisters". Every episode reveals just like a book a little more about every character that makes you feel for them, laugh, cry and even see tourself I'm them.
I will agree AT FIRST, Schuyler Fisk was a little hard to fall inlove with as Amanda but by epsiode 3....... I was head over heals. Her facial features while quirky by 6 I loved that little turn in her nose too! She's relatable and both sister's in various ways are so self-controlled; the kind you can relate to the pain that's behind that skill. It's what makes you the worst days or moments of you life you pull your self together and save face. I'd love to tell you more of why but I'd ruin the show and the unfolding of the natural story. By the way, once I realized who her mom in RL is, her features made sense. If you feel like of "man, there's something about her do I like it or don't I" it's you do, you just keep seeing her mom in her!
Now, Genevieve Angelson aka Mae Moore, she's a doozy! I went from wanting to kick her in the shins, to crying and loving her! She by far I think did the most raw painful growth. I think honestly Mae is my favorite character for that, because I see my own journey. That's all that I will give away.
Now the grandma summit! Both of these women have grown up on TV and in movies, young years to their graceful true honest adult selves, without all the perverbial standards of Hollywood! Lea Thompson and Wendie Malick have always been true to themselves as wwomeen in the world of plastic surgery and unrealistic beauty. As if that isn't enough of a reason to love them, they are amazing in any role they have both held. In this one Lea kindness and sweetness make you understand how Amanda could love her as a second mother. Wendie Malick is amazing and so relatable as that hard scorned women just trying to survive as best she can, that she may have over looked that her choices as a mother effected her children. But with a little love it, honest accountability and reflection anyone can start fresh.
Oh, let's not forget Frank Jr, he's a perpetual child chasing his daddy's praise. While you can understand why he is who he is, he is the epitome of "own worst enemy". His mother's unconditional love is endearing but can't help him. Maybe season 2 will bring some changes for him in a good way or more challenges for the sister's we shall see!
Rounding out the cast Sabrina, Jay, Kenneth, Sergio, Lindzy, Frankie, Shauna & mysterious Guster. They are all treasures trully adding tidbits and flakes of pure gold, into the show. Sergio, is trully a romantic hot slice of pie! You'll love him, I promise. Jay & Kenneth, the perfect amount of spice and call you out we all need in friends. Shauna, I won't ruin her, she is TRULY a secret boss babe who we all need in our corner to keep us from falling on our face! Linzy & Frankie, are that sweet reminder of childhood friendship that we wish for all our daughters to have one day!
Ignore the bad comments based of books, if you want a lighthearted drama with a pinch of comedy, this is a good watch, I got sucked in and binge it in 2 days! Sadly I'll have to find something else!
I never review shows but this one just didn't deserve the feedback it was given, and I couldn't let these other reviews ruin the wholesomeness this show brings for other.
Happy streaming!

I had high hopes for this series. It was one of the reasons that I signed up for Hallmark+.
Unfortunately, I'm sorry to be superficial but I don't think Schuyler Fisk is well cast for her role. I didn't find it believable that Sergio appears to have an instant attraction to her in the season's first episode. She has quirky facial features. I just didn't feel the romantic connection and that's important to me if I'm going to immerse myself into the storyline and root for the characters.
Because it's not believable for me, I won't continue with the series.
I'll be looking out for more new Hallmark content in the future.

I admit that I never read the books but do know that 9 times out of 10, the books are always so much better that the tv or movie versions. That being said I started to watch the 1st episode and it was pretty cringeworthy. The perk of watching it on a streaming service is that you can fast-forward it. I managed about 20 minutes just enough to get introduced to all at least most of the characters and get a gist of the story. Then I jumped to the last episode of season 1, episode 8. The first couple of minutes showed all I needed to see during the "previously" segment.
Then I jumped to the winning results and then scanned to the end. I feel bad for Wendy and Lea. They are still great actors but this is a sad sad show.

I never read or even knew there were books until I started reading reviews. I thoroughly enjoyed the series and would love to see another season. I appreciated the narrator moving the story along and providing back story content. I feel there are still a lot of things left unexplored that would lend well to future episodes/seasons. I enjoyed the family dynamics and the character building allowed me to be invested in seeing how they would evolve.
So hard to find good shows these days especially ones that last longer than one season. I find myself starting one episode of a series and never going back, I ended up binge watching this straight through over 2 days.
