Thirst with Shay Mitchell

As a travel, food, drink, and culture enthusiast I was interested in this show. I was unfamiliar with the host but grew to love her and found her very entertaining and relatable. For people that are leaving bad reviews, maybe this show just isn't for you. Shay is playful and interested in learning about other cultures. She provides a unique and entertaining perspective for a travel show. I appreciate the camera eye contact, as she is bringing her viewers in with her on her journey. I didn't feel in any way that she was mocking any culture. Just learning through experiencing it firsthand. I hope this show continues!

I don't knock many host on t.v show but let me tell you something about this lady, she is a terrible host for what this is. She absolutely is cringe in every single scene. Why does she look at the camera on every single scene? You can visibly tell how uncomfortable she is with nearly every drink or situation or food that is presented to her. I just don't understand how you can go into a show being so cringe. She may be super model beautiful but she lacks the ability to keep your attention for long stretches. I'm a pretty easy guy to keep entertained, especially when beautiful women come into play. I'm 23 minutes into episode 1, while a little buzzed and I want to turn it off. Crazy.

Good concept, writing and camera work. The host is perpetually unprepared, self-interested and culturally phobic, though. That was probably a choice of the producer/director, but was not my cup of tea for a show called Thirst. For example, she wasn't aware of the importance of guinea pigs or Lake Titikaka in Peru. Both of those would be on Page One of a briefing about Peru. Maybe the idea was to keep her in the dark about where she was going to visit, but that sounds like a questionable decision. A host with a touch of knowledge or empathy for the place they're visiting would be an improvement.

Was curious about show when I heard about it! Love watching this type of show, Tucci, Bourdain, Zimmern etc. Shay is a jaunty host, seemingly up for anything! There are numerous traval shows that make food the center of attention and local culture. They may throw in a drink once in awhile, but a show focused on local drinks and local culture is definitely wanted and needed! The direct interaction with the camera makes Shay appear approachable and inviting! I would love to have a drink with her! I enjoy the spontaneous comments and her interactions with the local guides and her support crew! The voice over writing is superlative and keeps us engaged! Have watched the first two episodes a few times will watch the third, Argentina, tonight which I am sure will be as pleasurable as the Peru and Columbia episodes. Second season coming soon?!

Recommend! My husband and I are really enjoy going this show together! Gorgeous cinematography and travel experiences in off the beaten path locales. It's a light and playful tone that is about connecting human to human across cultures, and with a good social awareness as well. The show foregrounds real people who are proud of their culture and generous about sharing. The host, Shay Mitchell, is so charming and comes across with such humbleness and authenticity, and I like how they show the behind the scenes stuff and not only the glossy veneer of typical travel shows. Watching this show feels like going on vacation with Shay as a friend!
