"Violets are Blue" by SKYND boasts an eerily catchy melody that is based on the true story of the infamous killer Luka Magnotta. From the very beginning, the atmospheric and haunting vibe immediately hooks the listener, making it a true sonic gem that stands out in today's musical landscape. The song's blend of dark undertones and infectious rhythm creates a mesmerizing auditory experience that lingers long after the track ends, leaving a lasting impression on the listener.

However, the music video, although visually striking in some aspects, struggles to match the allure of the music. The visual narrative feels notably sparse, with the majority of the visuals taking place inside of a photo-booth. The actor portraying Magnotta confined to the photo-booth offers little in the way of dynamic performance or engaging storytelling, which is a shame considering the captivating music that accompanies it. Meanwhile, Skynd herself appears standing mostly still with a simple background while wearing a dress that, to be honest, makes her resemble a burrito rather than complementing the song's aesthetic. The dress, which is supposed to add to the song's dark and eerie vibe, instead comes across as silly and out of place.

The lack of movement and creepy visuals leaves the overall presentation feeling empty and underdeveloped. The music video fails to provide a cohesive narrative that ties in with the song's theme, leaving the viewer feeling disconnected from the music. The sparse visuals and lack of storytelling make it feel like a missed opportunity to create a truly immersive experience that would complement the song's dark and haunting vibe.

My final thoughts: while the track's eerie catchiness is undeniably its strong suit, the accompanying video falls short with its minimalist and puzzling imagery. Fans of the music may find themselves wishing that the visual representation was as captivating and thought-provoking as the sound itself. I've been a long time fan of this band but it pains me to admit that SKYND's latest song as well as music video seem to mark a noticeable downturn in their creative trajectory. This unique band once revered for their chillingly atmospheric storytelling and uniquely dark aesthetic but now it seems like they have lost their edge with this music video and song. The production feels dull and lacks the haunting depth and eerie visual innovation that initially set them apart from many modern bands. The narrative, which should be gripping and emotionally intense, instead comes off as bland, failing to evoke the usual spine-tingling thrill. It's disappointing to witness such a significant drop in quality from a band that once pushed the boundaries of their genre so fearlessly and even had a living legend like Jonathan Davis from Korn collaborate with them on their second track "Gary Heidnik". While it was a neat idea to include photos of some fans in the video, this gesture couldn't save the music video from its disappointing execution.

What is also disappointing is my very recent discovery that SKYND is now using AI to generate texts in their emails that they send to their fans, which is a very strange move that just undermine the authentic personal touch that once defined their communication to us fans. I mean, why was it so necessary to use AI to describe what a terrible person Luka Magnotta is?

Should SKYND disband really soon, I do wish to see each band-member carry forward their creative spirit especially the talented singer Marina Ortega, and that they all will contribute to the world of art in new and inspiring ways.
