Hell Squad 2: Fresh Meat

If you thought the first hell squad was good, well you better buckle in because you're in for a treat and a ride and a surprise all in one. I was on the edge of my seat for this film and i don't think i could've enjoyed it any more (unless i got to see it with my best friend, as i did in the previous hell squad film). So many good lines and scenes that are hilarious, and/or disgustingly cool. I wish i could erase my memory of this film just so i could have the pleasure of watching it again for the first time. Such a beautiful piece of work, and you can see that the efforts were well worth the product. Love love love hell squad 2.

Carter, Grayce and Kailin upped the ante from the first Hellsquad and gave their franchise the first full feature length film. There's never a dull moment the full way through and every scene has an idea put into it, that was designed out of love. Whether it's the film's charming humor that you can't quite get anywhere else or the creativity involved with the gore in the film, there will always be something that will give the viewer a genuine reaction. What surprised me the most on my first viewing was how "moody" some of the horror moments were, and I mean that in the best way. At one moment you're laughing because you're watching a movie made by a bunch of friends who were having a good time, and then the next moment you are instantly reminded that you are watching a genuine horror film. The combination of these elements works so well and keeps your interest the full way through. Hellsquad 1 and Hellsquad 2 are love letters to all of the classic horror movies throughout the years, where I can see most of it's inspiration coming from scream, but it uses these old tropes from classic horror films and also incorporates a new and modern culture to give this movie it's own identity.

From January to October, Hell Squad 2 has encompassed our lives with pre production, shooting, and post production. What has come from this quick turn around is a film that oozes the love of the indie horror film. Filmed on a Sony Handicam and Super 8, Hell Squad 2 really shows what one can do when they don't put their budget towards film equipment. The actors showcase a care for the script. Particularly actors Cassidy and Annaleigh who I feel as though brought earnestness to even the campiest of lines. Not to say everyone didn't do this but after watching the film dozens of times in the editing room, I'm always amazed what these two managed to do with dialogue written in a Barnes and Noble Starbucks Cafe. That's not to say the dialogue is poor, as I think it fits the genre of the films we were inspired by. In fact, I shamefully quote this movie often. I cackle at the way Micah awkwardly pauses and says "cool", I'm enamored by Emma's "I'm hammered", I'm dumbfounded by Todd's "Little grassroots movement", and I say Rhiannon's "I like this plan, I'm in" at least once a week. The energy is palatable and the angles splendid. I thank everyone dearly who helped in anyway with this movie and hope they know how indebted I am to them. However, I don't rank it at a 10 because as the director, I'm always going to be harsher on my own work. I think we could've gone bloodier and sped things up overall. But it's a 10 in my heart because we did it. And look what we can do.

Such a fun and gorey movie!! You can absolutely tell how much fun everyone had making it and it shows. This is the perfect campy slasher flick for summer, winter, fall, ANYTHING!!!! I will never forget seeing this in the theater and hearing everyone laugh and gasp together.

The directors absolutely knew what they were doing and what they were making. It makes you feel like you're watching Friday the 13th or Sleepaway camp for the first time! The anticipation, the horror, the cheesy screams/laughs. A perfect 10/10 if there was one.

I cant wait for a DVD release and maybe a VHS release??
