"Wormwood" is quite an incredible short film as it conveys tranquility, peace, and a great reflective message about moving forward and carrying on. Without a doubt, it's worth it and I recommend it as long as you like animated shorts.
The execution of this short film is incredible, featuring a great directing team that astonishes with its epicness from the script, character design, animation, color tones, soundtrack, sequence of movements, cinematography, among others. Cinematic aspects that dazzle at every moment.
In its early scenes where nature and a horse could be seen, it reminded me of "The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse" for a few seconds as the soundtrack also accompanies and conveys an incredible rollercoaster of emotions. The entire sound and musicalization section is outstanding, one of the best aspects of this short film.
The entire focus on the past and how many human beings carry traumas due to significant losses in their lives is depicted here exceptionally. Being reflected in the face of our protagonist Simon, and boy, is it very moving. Returning to where we were happy with our loved ones is one of the most nostalgic moments one can experience due to the return of memories. However, the short film reflects the importance of people who help you largely overcome the past and motivate you with small acts to move forward, advance, and continue with life.
The scene where a small part of the house starts to fall is a clear example of the inner part of our protagonist, serving as a metaphor for his trauma and opening those windows to a life waiting to be enjoyed.
From my perspective, it's a great short film. It surprised me, and I would definitely watch it again. Simon has a lot of the essence of the character Charlie from the movie "The Perks of Being a Wallflower."
