I challenge you to get through this movie.
I'm trying to think if there's anything good about this movie. There was a moment when the mountains looked pretty, that lasted 3 seconds or so. That's the highlight.
The dialog in particular is so bad, it will have you hoping everyone in this "action* movie crashes in a fireball. That's something I could cheer for, but I didn't make it past the 39 minute mark, so I'll never know how it ended.
I'd rather back over my head with my own car than watch another minute.

I think all filmmakers should take the medium seriously, but most don't. It's an artform. I'm not saying make an art film, just be mindful. Take it seriously. Do honest work.
This movie isn't for everyone. There's no antagonist/protagonist face off with a satisfying conclusion. It's just a story.
That's all I'm looking for. A life that isn't mine, in a time and place I'll never know, told by someone mindful of the work they are doing.
Every couple of years, someone does this kind of work and I'm thankful for it.

Acting, directing, casting are all very good.
HOWEVER
as far as casting, I imagine a meeting in which:
"We need someone who can really bring it with over-the-top crying jags."
"Claire Danes comes to mind."
"I mean someone that can have a psychotic breakdown until her face looks like 20 pounds of soggy goo."
"CLAIRE DANES!"
Holy hell, when the opening scene was Claire Danes blubbering and losing her crap, I got "Homeland" PTSD where 50% of every show was her losing it in a really unattractive way.
THAT ASIDE
I love Matthew Rhys. I thought he was a grand slam homerun in "Perry Mason". Loved it. So far in this series, he is really spectacular. This guy deserves more roles.
