The show begins with Sophie and her family that move to a Texas town. You watch Sophie navigate making new, bizarre friends with everyone carrying some sort of secret, trauma, or morally corrupt drama. Halfway through, it transitions from sex & scandal to a dark murder mystery. You won't be shocked when the truth is revealed, but watching the theories evolve will take you on a fun ride.
Overall, I had fun watching this. The Ferrel/Reynolds humor was what you'd expect, the story was interesting, but the vocals for the musical pieces were very karaoke bar. This won't be an epic musical where you'll want to add the songs to your playlist, but with the visuals of the movie it's entertaining.
Running time for this holiday film is a little rough at just over 2 hours - for a while there I was asking myself, "is this over yet?" It dragged on in places that I wasn't expecting, and not in a good way.
Absolutely worth a watch if you're a fan of the actors, and I will watch it again to see if I feel differently about it, but I don't see this movie being a yearly Christmas must-watch.

How fascinating a boy gets texts from someone that died, right?! Eh, not so much. I was expecting weird, bizarre, ghostly, and creepy, but the movie wasn't that at all. I guess I'd describe it as a drama with no shock factor. Perhaps the message is that the world of cell phones can mess with you? I'm your average person, and with that being said, this movie was more confusing, long and boring than it was interesting. I'm wondering how this got labeled as a horror film, honestly. If you give this a try, I recommend you go into it knowing this isn't how it's described. You will not get a story that satisfies your haunting desires. Not sure it even satisfies drama desires. You probably won't be texting friends after watching it saying, "YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS!"
