This movie came out years ago, and it still holds up. This is a wonderful movie. Powerful performances. My sibling identifies as male now, and this movie had a huge impression on him. He idientified with Kai, and spent the entire film engaged (seeing how he only watches 2 minute tik toks, that's saying something!). The idea that freedom is found in ourselves is a beautiful sentiment that we both related to and bonded over. I just read the reviews from IMDB users, who clearly have no taste or are biased against transgender leads, and thought I should write something positive. A low budget budget movie, that no studio would ever have made when this was made, deserves appreciation and credit. The actors' performances are wonderful and the road trip aspect made it a great ride! Highly recommend "Relish"!
I watched this movie with my girlfriend last night. She loves musicals. I don't. So we compromise, we watch movies I like then what she likes, but I digress. This was such a pleaseent surprise. We were crying with laughter, then she was actually, really crying by the end. Some great one-liners, witty banter, cringe romance followed by meta moments and then it hits you hard when you least expect it with actual romance, and you realize there is a Rom-Com within this bizarre, visually insane, musical, madhatter movie! We were singing the damn songs this morning. Exceptional bluegrass music, fun premise, irreverent jokes, wacky visuals and stellar lighting. We can't recommend it enough. It breaks the stereotypical movie traditional structure and leaves you humming bluegrass!
