Horror is a genre filled with freaks and weirdos and horror fans are, by and large, freaks and weirdos. Mostly nice freaks and weirdos. But if you don't like seeing a few black faces mixed in with white faces and you have a problem with people with vaginas and you suspect some of the speakers may be gay, you may not like it so much. But if you're NOT a hateful troll who can't get a date, you'll probably like it, because it's just a bunch of people who make and love movies talking about must-see horror films in all kinds of subgenres, like Giant Monsters and Japanese Horror and Space Horror. It's not heavy and it's not political. It's fun. It's horror. Lighten up.
How much you like this movie may depend on your demographic. Jason Statham, a solid member of Generation X, is a retired government killing machine. His only friend is nice Boomer lady Phylicia Rashad. She falls prey to a phishing scheme run by a gang of Millennial hacker scumbags. For the next 90 minutes or so Stratham takes revenge on every smug little twit he encounters, dousing their sense of entitlement in gasoline and setting it on fire. The only person who realizes how screwed all these disrespectful children are is Jeremy Irons, who, being of a certain age, knows in his heart that they deserve what's coming to them.
Debate with husband:
Me: Did you like it?
Him: Oh yeah.
Me: I really liked it.
Him: But is it really horror? Aren't giant monsters science fiction?
Me: These were all science fiction HORROR films.
Him: I thought horror was gore and slashers.
Me: Then you have a very narrow view of what horror is. Horror blends with all kinds of other genres. Folk horror, comedy horror, action horror.
Him: Oh, yeah.
Me: (can't stop) When the Japanese saw Godzilla in 1954 it sure as hell was a horror movie to them. Godzilla Minus One is a horror movie. These are all supernatural creatures and they kill people. They're metaphors for all the enormous problems we fear. I think they spelled that out.
Him: Yes, you're right, you win, I give up. (Opens beer, drinks in silence.)
