Some films cannot be remade time and time again. The repetitive theme has run its course. It shows a lack of creative content and financial backing. Hollywood is only interested in making money, not fresh entertaining content for the paying audience.
The fact that it was filmed in 2020 shouldn't matter.
This movie was a wreck from go. I love Ice Cube and his range but I think he was a victim of direction. It's not about a lack of dramatic performance. The script couldn't be helped. Can't imagine any relevant filmmakers pushing their vision in this chaotic, unreal, disconnected movie. Even though all data everywhere in the world was being hijacked and the internet shutdown, somehow the team who "saved the world" were able to place Amazon orders and communicate strictly online. While world governments were shutdown. You get the idea.

I was excited when I heard about this film. Gladiator is one of my all-time favorites. Family thinks I'm crazy because I can pretty much quote all the good parts. This movie, however, has nothing n memorable to quote. The dialog was uninspiring and unmoving.
The whole accurate historical theme was never embraced. From the wardrobe, overhead shots of Rome. It lacked whatever quality G1 had to make attached to the setting. This is just a bunch of folks walking around in very obviously not ancient dwellings.
The actors accents are all over the place. You don't really like any particular character. There's no depth to be found. And surprisingly Denzel sounds like a big city American. No effort at all to change up to fit with the time period in which this story takes place.
Bad CGI. The baboons had no hair. WTF? The scenes of the ocean and the boats. Everything overly colorful and overdone.
And I hope that whoever authorized the sharks will never work in film making ever again.

This film appears in a lot of the different horror movie rankings from different sites so I thought I'd finally give it a try. Started out OK with the blind antagonist being an military veteran so you know to expect some extreme PTSD. But very quickly the illogical decision making appears. Like actually climbing DOWN a ladder going into the basement instead of heading for the nearest exit. From there it's just bits and pieces from your average "horror" movies. Some WTH moments and Lang really made you feel the use of other senses. Ending nothing new. This is why I've started indulging in foreign horror flicks. While the premises may not be new the stories are told/shown in a much more original way. And they don't ALWAYS have teenage and young adults as the main characters. I'm so over that.
