What a fine movie. I was mesmerized by the clothing, hardships, prairie schooners, river crossings, Native Americans and adventure. The black and white format from 1930 is perfect and I would hope no one thinks it needs color. John Wayne was so very handsome as a young man and I enjoyed his acting in this more than in his later, more 'macho' roles. It is a history lesson and a tribute to the actual pioneers' bravery.
