I watched the first episode and what could have been an entertaining comedy quickly became disappointing. It was not a disappointment because of the acting or the script or the direction. Those were all perfectly fine. But I was pu5 off by the canned laughing track that not only did not enhance the program it was a tragic distraction. Revisiting an era in which laugh tracks were used to alert the viewer that something was funny was not a good decision. It's possible this is merely a satire on those kind of programming from the past but it was totally unnecessary. Seeing the trailers I was looking forward to watching this serious but I am disappointed with what I witnessed.
I seen some reviews that were critical of the program being far too slow. Apparently, they are entertained by the procedural programs in which after a crime is committed in the first 10 minutes the rest of episode is spent gathering facts and suspects until the last 5 minutes when an arrest is made. Police work often is far more extensive requiring days, weeks or longer to arrive at a resolution. The weakness in this program was the potential police coverup which has become something of a cliche. Also, another cliche is potentially attaching a crime to the wrong individual. Otherwise, this particular program was very entertaining.
This is another version of the French serial, Astrid, about a young woman with Autism who likes solving puzzles. She works in the filing of Criminal files, having been placed in the custody of a person in charge of the area following the death of her parents at young age. She becomes a critical piece of solving criminal cases for the police. Watching the first episode I can't help comparing the two and I certainly hope this version is an entertaining as the original. Astrid has at least one more Season coming available in the Spring of 2026 and I am looking forward to it since the last Season ended on one of those cliff hangers.
