OK, yes, the movie was definitely formulaic and far from being a materpiece, but it is a delightful watch nonetheless. It is everything I expected it to be. And honestly? The fact that it has earned such a bad reputation might be down to our viewing habits than to its inherent qualities. If people had watched it 30-40 years ago as kids, they would now be saying "They don't make films like that anymore..."

I'm glad I didn't listen to all the bad reviews. It is a visual fest, it's never dull, and it's pleasantly old-fashioned. It would screen it in a double-feature with "Ready Player One". It has the same charm.

I forced myself to watch the first five episodes. Why did I do it? I had to remind myself that movies and shows can be more than entertainment. Upon learning that the show was based on the creator's own life experiences, I decided to immerse myself in a world I know very little about. Coming from a white, atheistic middle-class background, the world of religious working-class characters has only been known to me through films. After enduring five episodes of characters calling each other bro, selling counterfeit goods, listening to hip-hop and doing all the stereotypical things, I gave up when Mo was extremely rude to a store manager who had fired his brother for stealing (as he well should have). The show presented the conflict in a way that suggested that Mo was the good and the store manager the bad guy.

I'm sorry, but no, I coulnd't take it anymore.

This is just another American movie about money and violence. There is nothing amazing or surprising about it, it's just another one of those movies where a group of strangers come together, and then revelations happen, and there is money somewhere at the centre of it, and there's also plenty of violence (which I'm personally never bothered by).

When the movie is over, you realise that it has made no impact on your life, except for being mildly entertaining, and that you will forget everything about it by the end of next week. There is a reason you've probably never heard it mentioned and simply came across it while browsing Disney Plus.
