"Tigers Are Not Afraid" is a gritty and unrelenting look at what the drug war has done to children and families in Mexico, and how absolutely devastating life is. We follow Estrella, who is gifted three magical pieces of chalk from her teacher after a drive-by, and with each piece of chalk, Estrella will have three wishes to make that will either keep her alive or hasten her end.
From the jump, Issa Lopez's direction is taut and unrelenting, showcasing the absolute horror of reality while also injecting breathtaking magical realism often seen in the works of Guillermo del Toro. The child actors are all fantastic, the visuals, while obvious at times, are absolutely incredible, and the production is outstanding. From the music and cinematography to the writing and wardrobe, "Tigers Are Not Afraid" is one of the best films of the 2010s.

I'm not a hardcore fan of the Conjuring franchise, but I do enjoy most of the franchise. This is one of the entries I don't, and one that's both disappointing and a huge letdown. Set in 1952, Sister Irene and Father Burke are sent by the Vatican to investigate the Cârta Monastery in Romania, where an ancient evil has awakened.
From the jump, director Corin Hardy captures a fairly solid Gothic atmosphere and aesthetic thanks to the stunning location of the monastery, but that atmosphere is quickly lost when the film becomes a derivative mess of jump scares and cliches as it progresses. The acting is fine but never standout, the effects are pretty good too but never captivate, and the writing is just absurdly bland and uninspired.
This movie wasted not just the talents of its cast but the director too, who created an impeccable Gothic fairy tale with his Irish horror film, The Hallow. This is the 2nd worst film in the Conjuring franchise, just behind Annabelle.

Scarecrows is the first and last film from William Wesley about a group of criminals who are double-crossed by one of their own and have to land their getaway plane on a remote farm. There, things go from bad to worse when the group realizes that something evil is afoot.
This movie is so wonderfully bad, it's honestly one of the best unintentional comedies ever made. The audio mixing makes the blend of inner dialogue sound exactly as if the characters are talking aloud, and the acting ranges from under to over-acting. Even the practical effects are just silly, being barely worthy of direct-to-VHS hits at the time, which in a way helps secure this movie's position as a so-bad-it's-good time.
