Keep it in mind that Kennedy could have thrown a party for the "Boiler Room Girls" at a Boston, or even an Edgartown tavern or other venue. You know ... like a normal decent boss would do and everyone invited could bring a date.
Kennedy arranges for the Boiler Room gals to have motel rooms which sure helps explain things to the wives of the 5 out of 6 men at this soiree who were married. Those 5 men's wives might have wondered why there are no wives invited and why are they using a romantic, secluded, vacation beach house that has a refrigerator for booze, electricity for romantic music and beds??? All 6 young women were attractive and single. Wasn't the Kennedy Compound on Martha's Vineyard? Why not hold this party there?
We will probably never know if lies were told to these young women to get them there. Still, there's no record of any of the guests, recognizing a set up when they see one, protested or tried to leave immediately upon arrival.
So ... let's just take the word of a serial womanizer who didn't think twice about dragging another 11 people into one of his sordid stunts.
In 1951, Ted hired someone to take a Spanish test at Harvard for him, was caught and expelled.
In 1958 Ted was speeding late at night and turned off his headlights to avoid capture. God help any pedestrians crossing the road. Kennedy pulls into a driveway, shuts the car off and lays down on the front seat. The sheriff pulls right in behind him and discovers him hiding and promptly arrests him for reckless driving.
These things are being mentioned to help give context to this decent film which I believe still cuts Ted Kennedy a break that he doesn't deserve.
"Some feel that to court a woman in one's employ is nothing more than serpentine ploy to transform a lady into a prostitute." "Kate and Leopold"
