  • Love it even more after reading the lowest rated reviews

I loved this movie so much! One of the few times I went into a movie having never heard of it and knowing nothing about it. I had no idea what to expect.

Well, I loved it from the very beginning. It was cute, heartwarming, and funny. I felt that it had quite a few meaningful messages, but maybe you need to be a little bit older to actually catch them all.

It's not an action movie and while I absolutely love SciFi, that definitely wasn't the most important aspect here. For me, it was a perfect human interest story.

Yeah, it was about an alien, but really (REALLY) it was about human beings. The good, the bad, and the ugly.

When I read the few 1, 2, or 3 star reviews I can't believe the things that people are questioning or complaining about. I think anyone with true empathy for other living beings and good critical thinking skills should be able to take away everything this film is saying.

    I thoroughly enjoyed it.

  • Season 4 has ended it for me

Sadly, I feel each season was not quite as good as the one before with this series. Season one - absolutely LOVED it. The story; the characters; the acting.

Season two was very good as well. For me, not quite up to the first, but still incredibly enjoyable to watch.

I feel that I sort of forced my way through season three because at that point I felt pretty committed to the show. I certainly didn't hate it, but it was not even close to season one as far as enjoyability.

So then comes season four. I couldn't even make it through the first episode!

I'm not saying I expect total believability from a series such as this, but when I saw that Joe was working as a college professor at a UK university, I totally lost it. I mean, really? Wasn't there any other profession they could have chosen for him? The idea that he would be able to get a job at that level is absolutely ridiculous and downright impossible. Impossible.

And from what I've read, the writers did it purposefully, which makes it even worse. This is from an article I read while researching to make sure I didn't miss the episode where Joe got his PhD, or even his college degree for that matter:

"It turns out that You author Caroline Kepnes and showrunner Sera Gamble have been hoping to put Joe in this setting for quite some time. "We've known for years that we wanted to eventually put him in a university," Gamble told Entertainment Weekly."

I get that Joe got himself a new identity for season four, but again, I can literally guarantee that he would not be able to land a job such as this. Even with a brand new identity.

It's fiction, so of course they can do what they want, but I think this is just plain dumb. And annoying.

I know it probably sounds trivial to some, but it's freaking lazy on the part of the writers. And if that's how lazy they want to be with something so simple, I just don't feel compelled to invest any further time here.

It was good while it lasted for me...

  • Docu-series was excellent - but some of the reviews are even more compelling

I really enjoyed this and look forward to 2 more episodes (presumably next year?) I'd like to hear a little more about what becomes of some of the key players. Especially Gwen's daughter - if that girl isn't suffering with Anorexia, I'm not sure who is.

I'm a little surprised that the story was unfamiliar to me as I find the topic very interesting. Between the cult storyline and the charlatan religious leader storyline, it was right up my alley.

How individuals can let themselves be taken it by such incredibly obvious hypocrisy is truly beyond me. But I guess they must be looking for something missing in their lives if they're willing to let anyone or anything influence them to this degree. And that's how a cult gets you - it provides what is missing. It fills a void that nothing else has been able to fill.

Of course it's the children either born into it or brought into it by their parents who get my deepest sympathy. Or someone like Delaney who was influenced at a young age and at a particularly vulnerable time in her life. My heart breaks for her parents.

What really fascinated me, however, was reading a couple of the reviews here. There are people who watch the series and then defend this despicable, greedy, evil, charlatan and her co-leaders? It's not a cult and Gwen actually helped people? Really? And how could anyone criticize parents fighting to keep their high school daughter from joining this cult filled with crazies and zealots?

Of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. And it probably shouldn't surprise me as it's a big part of the reason this country is in the horrendously frightening position it's in today.
