This might be my favorite slasher movie of all time. It managed to resurrect the horror genre. Prior to this movie we had gotten a lot of bad horror sequels from franchises that reigned supreme in the 1980s. Scream brought a fresh new take that was succesful and used in other horror movies that came out afterwards. Where am I even gonna start with this masterpiece. The opening scene of this movie has masterful suspense with it getting darker and darker as the time goes on. What seemed like an innocent phone call turned into something much more horrifying. At the end of the scene Casey is killed which is so surprising since she's on the cover-art and the actress was quite big in hollywood and she was of course the girl from E-T. After what seemed like a short-film we realise that anyone can die. That raises the stakes and you just don't know what to expect. Rating: 8.5/10

I just don't get it. It just edges out Scream 2 for the best sequel of the franchise. It might be one of the slower entries and it's not really connected to any of the other movies. I do think that makes the movie stand better as a stand-alone entry. It doesn't rely on questions that will be answered in the next movie. Sidney is not really utilised as much as in the original trilogy but that's because her character arc was concluded in Scream 3. It comments on reboots and remakes that came out during that time and that was a great choice since this was also kind of reboot. I like that we are introduced to these new characters and in my opinion they're the best side characters of this entire franchise. They're the most entertaining to watch in my opinion, especially Kirby. The mystery in this movie is the best since Scream 1. Jill is someone you don't expect as the killer so it surprises the audience but it also hits Sidney a lot of harder which they succeded with a lot better than in Scream 3. Charlie doesn't get a lot of praise as the killer because he just get's betrayed by Jill but let's be fair. Charlie does actually do all the killing in the ghostface costume and he's very crafty and the way he executes his plans. Also the gore in this movie is awesome and explicit but not to the point where it becomes distasteful. The final act is also a big highlight. Jill is just such a fan and interesting character to watch when she's setting up her alias. My last positive is that the suspense is great in this one, especially the ghostface in the closet scene. My negatives are very few actually. A big one is that it look's like the lens is smeared with vaseline. It's not something that ruins the experience but it's very visible in some shots. Another issue with this movie is that they didn't have the guts to let a ghostface killer get away with it. If they would've just ended it with Jill getting rolled into an ambulance car it would've been awesome. With Jill getting killed, it works better as a stand-alone movie which I talked about so it doesn't ruin the movie. Rating: 7.5/10
- DirecciónWes CravenElencoNeve CampbellCourteney CoxDavid ArquetteSydney se está acostumbrando a la vida universitaria dos años después de los asesinatos que la cambiaron para siempre, cuando una matanza comienza. For a movie that had a lot of rewrites and was released a year after the original, it turned out really good. Where this movie shines is in the suspense. It has some great chase scenes that get's you on the edge of your seat. Unlike other sequels like Friday the 13th part 2 that has nowhere to go after the original, this one actually merits its existence. Continuing plot points from the original like Cotton Weary that got wrongly accused of murder and how he want's to rejoin society again. When you see him throughout the movie you think "has he been affected so badly that he's the new killer" You just don't know and the way they use is very smart. Along the same lines, Sidney is great in this movie. I like that in the movie they combine her ptsd with the fact that literally anyone could be the killer and there are a lot more people involved this time around. The movie decides to be very similar to the original while at the same time being different enough and giving it its own flavour. It's a great way to trick the audience into thinking the killer is Derrick. One other positive of this movie is that it goes for a more darker tone compared to the original which just adds to the suspense and makes the audience feel uneasy. It has a isolating feel to it while at the same being set in a college with a lot of people and they do a great job with that. I still have a few negatives of this movie. A big one is the caféteria scene. I just can't let it pass. It's so hard to watch and it kind of creates an imbalance in the darker tone that they were going for with this movie. I also feel like some parts goes on for way longer than they have to and that makes it feel like the movie drags. Mickey as the killer just felt lazy to me because he hadn't been seen for 40 minutes prior to his reveal. Mrs. Loomis was great though even though she was barely a character prior to her reveal. She gives of an unhinged and scary performance which I think is a big highlight. The way Sidney threw or dropped prop stones on Mrs. Loomis was a little stupid though. Overall: A surprisingly good sequel that is one of the stronger entries of the franchise. Rating: 7.2/10
This movie is so frustrating for me. When I first watched this movie and had watched the first half I was sure this was the best Scream sequel and it wasn't even close but I was so disappointed by the final act that it became by 3rd favorite sequel instead. I did really love the action set-pieces and the way they wanted to be so different from the other entries. I wasn't a big fan of Sam in Scream 5 but she's much better here. I think it's because she's isn't being overshadowed by Sidney and Gale this time around. Ghostfaces sometimes say something like that there hasn't been one like me and they don't really follow through on that promise. In this movie they actually don't lie about them being different. First of, their motive has nothing to do with movies and they're much more vicious and brutal which is very much appreciated. The ghostface scenes that we do get are great, suspenseful and brutal. The bodega scene and the ladder scene are big highlights. What drops this movie down is the final act as I said. The ghostface reveals are probably the worst of the entire franchise. All of them comes of as obnoxious and annoying. I think it was a bad idea to have 3 ghostface killers since they all eat up each other's screentime and that makes them feel underdeveloped. One thing that I did really like about the final act is that Richie from the previous movie became more interesting and layered. I gotta say, I did really like the new characters but they make it too unrealistic in the way both Mindy and Chad survived. I wan't them to survive but at the same time, if they don't wan't them to die, don't stab them a hundred times. It kind of removes the stakes and tension if everyone just constantly survives a stab to the gutt. Another thing that brought this one lower on the list is that the story will not be continued. This movie is very divisive. Some people think it's a fresh take on the scream franchise and some think it's terrible. I'm in the middle. I don't think it's terrible but I don't think it's that good either. As you see you my ranking, you will understand that I'm a big fan of Scream 4 and I think this one copies that movie's formula. I mean in the way both are going back to the original and is recapturing things from the original. Another thing that I didn't like is Samantha being the daughter of Billy Loomis and that she has some psycho gene in her family which is just silly. It felt like that they tried so hard to use nostalgia to get people to be more interested in the movie. It comes to a point where the references are just too much. The movie is unoriginal and that's something I have a gripe with when it comes to horror movies. Friday The 13th Part 3, Child's Play 3 and Leatherface 1990 are big examples of this that just makes the movie so uninspiring. All of that being said, the movie actually has a lot of good thing about it. The kills are great and gory and the movie flows very well and doesn't drag in some parts. You might be surpried by this but I like the way they handled Dewey in this movie. It was time for him to go and I actually felt some emotions when he died so I gotta give props for that. Even though the killers were pretty obvious, I still think they were fun to watch and the way they died was badass. Rating: 6.5/10
For the worst movie of a horror franchise, it's not that bad. It's not as bad as movies like Halloween Resurrection or Jason Takes Manhattan, that's for sure. I like that in this movie we don't just get the same thing all over again which is quite common for a third installment. I do also think it wraps up the original trilogy pretty nicely. There's a lot of flaws though. First of, the killer reveal is lame since Sidney hadn't even met him and she was supposed to have this personal connection to him. If it was supposed to be her brother then it could've literally been anyone. That's not good writing. Another big flaw of this movie is that they don't balance the horror and comedy as good as they did in Scream 1 & 2. There's just too much comedy and the meta just makes everything so confusing. The meta is not as egregious as in movies like Seed Of Chucky but still not that good. Rating: 6/10
