When trying out for the parts of Bill and Ted, each actor was paired up with another. Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter were paired up, Reeves trying out for the part of Bill while Winter trying out for the part of Ted. They were cast opposite what they tried out for.

His favorite character, that he played, was "Granny S. Preston" in El alucinante viaje de Bill y Ted (1991).

Made his musical stage debut at age 10 in the St. Louis Opera production of "Oliver!" starring Vincent Price as Fagin. Alex played one of the urchins.

Along with Keanu Reeves, Hal Landon Jr. and Amy Stoch, he is one of only four actors to appear in all three "Bill & Ted" films: La magnífica aventura de Bill y Ted (1989), El alucinante viaje de Bill y Ted (1991) and Bill & Ted salvando el universo (2020).

Graduated from Montclair High school in 1983. There he attended the school of performing arts.
