In honor of her heartfelt performance in Idolo, amante y héroe (1942), when Teresa Wright died in 2005, when the roll call of former Yankees who had passed on was announced, her name was read out among all the ballplayers.

As of 2024, she remains the only performer to be nominated for an Oscar for their first three films.

Along with Fay Bainter, Barry Fitzgerald, Jessica Lange, Sigourney Weaver, Al Pacino, Holly Hunter, Emma Thompson, Julianne Moore, Jamie Foxx, Cate Blanchett and Scarlett Johansson, she is one of only twelve actors to receive Academy Award nominations in two acting categories in the same year. She was nominated for Best Actress for Idolo, amante y héroe (1942) and Best Supporting Actress for Rosa de abolengo (1942) at the 15th Academy Awards in 1943, winning the latter award.

Samuel Goldwyn discovered her on Broadway in the hit play "Life with Father" and invited her to Hollywood to play Alexandra, the daughter of Bette Davis's character in La loba (1941).

Until Jennifer Lawrence received her third nomination in 2014, Wright held the record for youngest actor to receive three acting Oscar nominations. Wirght was 24 years, 3 months, 20 days old at the time of her third nomination; Lawrence was 23 years, 5 months, 0 days old.
