Cites John Boorman's Amarga pesadilla (1972) as one of his all-time favorite movies, which he saw for the first time when he was just 10 years old. Curiously enough, Bill McKinney, who had played the squeal-like-a-pig mountain man in that movie, played Jamie Bell's genial grandfather in Green's Legado de violencia (2004) - 32 years later.

Three of his films are on Roger Ebert's best films of the year list. George Washington (2000) in 2000, Legado de violencia (2004) in 2004 and Shotgun Stories (2007) in 2008 (he was only a producer on Shotgun Stories (2007)).
