He was also a lawyer and for a time head of the lawyers' association in Dijon. He died while dining with friends and drinking a great bottle of wine.

His grandfather was one of the founders of la "Société des Agriculteurs de France". Hubert lost hia father when he was 5 years old. In 1947, he decided to sell his production by the bottle not by lots to wine traders. Thus his domaine became more well known.
