Jarrod Tallman is a screenwriter and director specializing in Pacific Northwest Gothic-elevated genre stories that explore themes of grief, survival, and human nature against unforgiving landscapes.
Tallman got his first camera from Circuit City in the late '90s. His mom co-signed for a credit card to help him get the Sony Mini-DV Camcorder.
He began his career in visual storytelling, serving as AV Director at Billabong, where he led global branded campaigns and directed projects that earned industry recognition, including Surfer Poll's "Movie of the Year" and the Charleston International Film Festival's Audience Choice Award. During this period, he directed a bromance-themed music video for Band of Horses' number-one wedding song "No One's Gonna Love You" from their Grammy-nominated album Cease to Begin and built a portfolio spanning surf films, documentaries, and corporate content.
Tallman graduated from The Evergreen State College, with a B.A. in Creative Writing and Continental Philosophy, and attended UCLA's School of Theater, Film & Television Screenwriting Professional Program.
His feature scripts blend psychological horror with emotional depth, often set in the Pacific Northwest. Current projects include "Escape from Ape Canyon," an elevated creature feature set around Mt. St. Helens; "Where the Wicked Cease," a Western set in 1880s Washington Territory; and "Dark Gray," a psychological thriller exploring obsession in Olympia's mid-aughts DIY music scene.
Tallman's work is characterized by its focus on isolation, violence, and the brutal beauty of natural landscapes as metaphors for internal struggles with trauma and survival.
