In 2013, Sir
Anthony Hopkins wrote
Bryan Cranston a letter applauding the excellence of
Breaking Bad (2008), as well as the performance of Cranston and his castmates. Hopkins continued, "what started as a black comedy descended into a labyrinth of blood, destruction and hell. It was like a great Jacobean, Shakespearian or Greek Tragedy." One essential element of a classical tragedy is that the protagonist has a tragic flaw that leads to his, her, or their downfall. For example, Macbeth's tragic flaw is most often argued to be ambition.
