Monkey D. Luffy

Monkey D. "Straw Hat" Luffy is a fictional character in One Piece manga as a young boy whose body gains the properties of rubber after he inadvertently eats a supernatural fruit called the Gum-Gum Fruit, one of many Devil Fruits that can be found in the One Piece world Luffy sails from the East Blue to the Grand Line in search of the legendary treasure One Piece to succeed Gol D. Roger as the King of the Pirates. He is the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates and along his journey, he recruits new crew members with unique abilities and personalities.

Captain Jack Sparrow

Captain Jack Sparrow is a fictional character and the main protagonist in the Pirates of the Caribbean film series. He is one of the nine pirate lords in the Brethren Court, the Pirate Lords of the Seven Seas. He can be treacherous and survives mostly by using wit and negotiation rather than by force, opting to flee most dangerous situations and to fight only when necessary.

Davy Jones

Davy Jones is a fictional villain character in the Pirates of the Caribbean feature film series, who first appears in the second film, Dead Man's Chest and returns in the series' third installment, At World's End. He is the captain of the Flying Dutchman roaming the seas in search of souls to serve upon his vessel for a century.

Captain James Hook

Captain James Hook is a fictional character in Peter Pan and its various adaptations, in which he is Peter Pan's archenemy. The character is a pirate captain of the brig Jolly Roger. His two principal fears are the sight of his own blood and the crocodile who pursues him after eating the hand cut off by Pan. An iron hook replaced his severed hand, which gave the pirate his name.

He is stubborn at times and very protective about his pet dodo bird, Polly. Pirate Captain has a crew that helps him on his adventures and journeys, and like Pirate Captain, don't have very accurate names.

He's totally what we imagine a pirate should be: cunning, sly, peg-legged, with a parrot on his shoulder called Captain Flint. The most colourful and complex character in the book, he continues to appear in popular culture.

Deacon

The Deacon is the main antagonist in the post apocalyptic sci-fi action movie, Waterworld. He was played by the late Dennis Hopper. The captain of the tanker and also the leader of the Smokers is looked up to as a messianic figure, as he has promised to lead the Smokers to the mythical Dryland, and in line with this quasi-religious nature, he is referred to as "Deacon". The Deacon, or "Deac", has an intense hatred of sails, instead preferring the mechanical machines, and believes that his aim to raid atolls is a "crusade". He teaches his men a philosophy of "take and ye shall receive." The Smokers also worship a former historical captain of the tanker, "Saint Joe."

Captain Blood

His Odyssey is an adventure novel by Rafael Sabatini, originally published in 1922. Captain Blood a.k.a. Peter Blood, bachelor of medicine and several other things besides, smoked a pipe and tended the geraniums boxed on the sill of his window above Water Lane in the town of Bridgewater.

Captain Blood is portrayed by many actors from many movie adaptations in early 20th century.

Captain Hector Barbossa

Hector Barbossa is a fictional character in the Pirates of the Caribbean film series, portrayed by Australian actor Geoffrey Rush. His character was partly inspired by Barbarossa Hayreddin Pasha. Barbossa is captain of the pirate ship, the Black Pearl. His plan is to break the Aztec curse he and his crew are under and bring an end to Jack Sparrow, one of his arch rivals.

Captain Sedgewick (Mr. Lunt)

Captain Sedgewick is part of a trio of busboys from "The Pieces of Ate," a pirate-themed dinner theater. He and colleagues Elliot and George fantasize about being real pirates. They are magically transported back to the 17th century to help a king defend his kingdom against his evil brother.

Edward Teach "Blackbeard" (1680- 1718)

Edward Teach better known as Blackbeard, was a notorious English pirate in the Caribbean Sea during the early 18th century, a period of time referred to as the Golden Age of Piracy. The General History claims that he had as many as fourteen wives, most of them common-law, but documentation is lacking. Blackbeard often fought, or simply showed himself, wearing a big feathered tricorn, and having multiple swords, knives, and pistols at his disposal.

Captain J. Flint

He is a fictional 18th century pirate who features in a number of novels and films. Created by Scottish writer Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894), Flint first appears in a children's magazine in (1881) and later in the classic adventure yarn Treasure Island (1883)

Charles Vane (1680 – 1721)

He was certainly one of the most skillful pirate captains. His navigating and ship combat skills were unmatchable, and he successfully plundered a numerous vessels. He represents the lawless and brutality that accompanied the 18th century outlaw pirates.

In the television series Black Sails, Vane is portrayed by Zach McGowan.

“Calico Jack” Rackham (1682 - 1720)

He was an English pirate captain operating in the Bahamas and in Cuba during the early 18th century.

In the television series Black Sails, Rackham is portrayed by Toby Schmitz.

William Kidd (1645 - 1701)

17th Century British privateer and semilegendary pirate who became celebrated in English literature as one of the most colourful outlaws of all time. Fortune seekers have hunted his buried treasure in vain through succeeding centuries.

In May 2015, a 50 kilograms ingot expected to be silver was found, and was believed to be part of Captain Kidd's treasure.

Jean Lafitte (1780 – 1823)

Jean Lafitte, despite his effeminate name and Frenchness, was an honest to goodness pirate king. He led an entire pirate island in Louisiana, capturing ships and smuggling stolen goods into New Orleans. The media and the authorities painted Lafitte as a dangerously evil mastermind and mass murderer, the Osama bin Laden of the 1800s, if you will.

The Dread Pirate Roberts is a fictional character in the novel The Princess Bride (1973) and its 1987 film adaptation. A pirate of near-mythical reputation, the Dread Pirate Roberts is feared across the seven seas for his ruthlessness and swordfighting prowess, and is well known for taking no prisoners.
