Ten Nights in a Barroom: An Introduction (2016)
*** (out of 4)
Film historian Charles Musser discusses the important of the 1926 film TEN NIGHTS IN A BARROOM, which is one of the films included on Kino's Pioneers of African-American Cinema. The historian talks about The Emporer Jones and how that book led to this film and the lead performance by Charles Gilpin. This featurette runs just five-minutes but it uses its running time very nicely as Musser gives us some great detail about the history of the story as well as its importance in regards to race movies. The film itself is included on this disc as well so it's best that you watch this and then watch the movie itself. There's certainly nothing ground-breaking here but it's an interesting piece with some great information.
