Don't Listen to the Critics. Go see it!

I don't write reviews often, but I feel like I need to on this one. After seeing the critic reviews for TRON: Ares, I thought it would be a boring (or at least empty) movie. However, I found the storyline interesting, and found myself paying attention for the duration of the film.

As some might remember, TRON: Legacy was met with terrible reviews when it came out back in 2010, and audiences received it poorly as well, making it a box office flop. Now, however, I think most will agree that it's a classic. Unfortunately, I fear the same may happen with TRON: Ares. Just to be clear: I liked it a lot. The soundtrack was good, the visuals were stunning, and the acting was solid. Could it have been "better"? Sure, but a movie of this nature could realistically only peak at about an 8/10, so being a 7/10 is really good. GO SEE IT! It's absolutely worth the ticket price to see it in 3D or IMAX.

It succeeds at being a Tron movie

Greetings User! Tron is a... unique IP, to say the least. When it released in 1982 there was nothing like it. Rotoscoping, green screen, hand drawn backgrounds and CGI mixed in with live action footage? It hadn't been done, not on that level, and it released to... middling reviews. Many praised its visuals and soundtrack whilst others complained that the narrative was flawed; some said it was too complex, others claimed it was too shallow. Whatever the case, the movie has since garnered a pretty significant cult following and is considered a classic in its own right. Then... it happened again. Tron: Legacy. Visually stunning, excellent soundtrack (many consider it to be the GOAT) but again it was found lacking in its script and was met with middling reviews and has since grown exponentially in popularity, many remembering it as on par or even better than the 82' original. Jump forward another fifteen years or so and here we are, with another gorgeous neon bathed movie with an excellent soundtrack that people can't seem to be able to make their minds up on how they feel about the contents of its script. It almost seems a right of passage at this point, but I imagine Tron: Ares like its predecessors will enjoy its fare share of devotees. The movie features a whole bunch of nods to 82' and Legacy, some of these are more welcome than others and I feel like it can sometimes feel a bit caught up in the past but it's clear at least that these people respect the series and that's more than can be said for a lot of blockbuster sequels released by major corporations in recent years. As I said, the visuals and soundtrack are sublime and though I didn't really connect with any of the users and programs in Ares the way I did with Kevin, Sam, Tron, etc. Nobody was egregious enough to stop me enjoying this movie. If you enjoy Tron as a franchise there will be things for you to enjoy here. I'm giving Tron: Ares a strong 6 to a light 7/10.

Hope you enjoyed reading this review, I'm hoping to do a deep dive of reviews for entire franchise (games and shows included) so if you're interested in those, check them out. End of Line.

Great visuals... lazy writing

The visuals in Tron: Ares are absolutely stunning - every frame feels like a piece of digital art. But sadly, the writing doesn't live up to the visuals. The story feels rushed and underdeveloped, like the project was pushed out too soon. Despite the massive budget and strong cast, weak writing drags everything down - even great actors can't shine when the script lacks depth.

Visually stunning, but completely soulless.

In anticipation of Tron: Ares, I rewatched the original Tron (it definitely shows its age, but still earns a solid 8/10 from me for the impact it had on the genre) and Tron: Legacy (still my favorite of the three). Naturally, my expectations for Ares were high.

When I heard Jared Leto had been cast as one of the leads, I was disappointed-he's never really delivered for me, with his Joker performance being the low point. Surprisingly, though, he impressed this time. He was convincing, grounded, and even held his own in scenes with Jeff Bridges.

What Tron: Ares ultimately lacks, however, is soul. Unlike the previous films, I couldn't connect or empathize with any of the characters. What's left is a dazzling visual experience-absolutely worth seeing in IMAX 3D-with a pulsing, energetic soundtrack.

But once the credits roll and you step out of the theater, it's completely forgettable.

Visuals was amazing!

I really enjoyed Tron: Ares, despite the mixed reviews. Experiencing it in IMAX definitely enhanced the film - the visuals and soundtrack were truly impressive. The CGI and overall visual design were stunning, and the music perfectly complemented the atmosphere. Without the IMAX experience, I can see how some might rate it lower, but you can't deny the film's visual beauty and strong audio presentation.

Worth watching

I don't know what other people are telling about it lacking depth. Story was short and straight forward. No unnecessary romance no plot which went against the universe and the source material. It was really good. Visuals were amazing which should be a given. Also it sets up for the next movie to actually take place Ton's world.

Better than I was expecting!

'Tron: Ares' is the third film in the video-game/pre-'Matrix' series that revolves around "the Grid" (effectively cyberspace) and the competing companies controlling it, Encom and Dillinger (effectively Microsoft & Google) and their CEOs trying to take the next leap forward in AI - Eve Kim (Lee) and Julian Dillinger (Peters). I assume you don't need to have seen the 1982 original or 2010's 'Tron: Legacy', but there's plenty of throwbacks and linkages, even if this isn't a direct sequel.

So many cameos/supporting cast that all add something, but don't get heaps of time = Julian's mum, Elisabeth (Anderson), Eve's CTO Ajay (Minhaj) & COO Seth (Castro), and obviously Kevin Flynn (Bridges), which is handled quite well. The main plot revolves around a security program, Ares (Leto) that tries to obtain "permanence" in the real-world, and his other Dillinger program Athena (Turner-Smith). Leto is actually not bad, with his still-somehow-youthful face perfect for an AI, and he has a few lines that get a few chuckles.

While there's plenty of similarities to 'Blade Runner 2049' and 'Ready Player One', and arguably not as good, 'Tron: Ares' does deliver some very impressive CGI, with vivid colour, fast-paced action - especially on the motorbikes and jetski - and some engaging fight scenes. The final act set piece is pretty epic, especially when paired with the strong Reznor/Ross score. All wrapped-up in under 2 hours.

Amazing in Imax

I fear the movie would've been a good 6 if it wasn't for the fact that I watched it in IMAX. I enjoyed the effects. A lot. And the soundtrack even more. A lot of visuals. And some questionable turns that are kinda unneeded into the plot. But nevertheless a fun nice mindless movie to watch and enjoy the music from!!

It's a fun movie, don't listen to critics

These credits wouldn't know how to enjoy a film if it slapped them in the face. Learn and remember how to enjoy a movie for what it is and take out whatever you're sitting on. Go watch the movie. It is a spectacle in the music is fun. Don't look your critic and make your own opinion. Jered Leto is perfectly fine.

A Forgettable Watch

Tron: Ares totally drops the ball on continuing the legacy of Tron: Legacy, ignoring what actually made the franchise special in the first place. Instead of diving deeper into the cool ideas about the digital world and humanity, the movie gets stuck in empty nostalgia and dull corporate drama. The story's flat, the characters have no real soul, and there's zero visual innovation. The plot feels shallow, the emotions don't land, and even Jared Leto's performance just adds to the overall blandness.

The only thing that really stands out is the killer soundtrack by Nine Inch Nails, seriously, it's the one part that gives the movie any kind of pulse. But beyond that, it feels like a directionless project, a half-hearted rehash with nothing new to say.

In the end, it's a perfect example of how a classic franchise can lose its way when it relies too much on nostalgia instead of creativity. Rather than taking risks or exploring the big questions left by Tron: Legacy, it seems to be trying to play safe and ends up being a forgettable watch.

The 3D version is stunning

So I heard as I rocked up that this film had mixed reviews but as always the critics are wrong (they'd probably laud a 4 hour Polish film about a circus cat or something equally banal to get a badge). The 3d version of this film is utterly immersive, the iMax sound fabulous, so much so, that I couldn't have cared less about the plot. I'm not sure what people expect but it's no less imaginative than 90% of films and the other 10% don't always work. Just go along for the experience alone and the 3d is a must. Easy to follow, loads of chase scenes, I thought Jared was good cl actually, all in all, I 'm pleased I watched it tonight, visually stunning, nice escapism from the daily grind..

Do not listen the critics! Go to the theatre and enjoy the movie

It my first time that I'm reviewing a movie after many years of being on this platform, because I have seeing or I'm reading reviews about Tron Ares, that personally I consider not fair, the low rating that are given to this movie.

The first half of the movie is very good, very good beautiful, with amazing visual, the score is perfect like Tron Legacy!

The second half of the movie and the finally it feels like it's was in rush, in my opinion the movie should have been much better if it's 15/20 minutes longer.

I hope that maybe we'll have a direct's cut one day on the 4k or on blue-ray!

I really don't understand the hate, even Tron Legacy has so many problems.

Tron Ares is own movie, with his own story like Blade Runner 2049!

Go and watch it on the theatre because it's really good movie!

Longest musicvideo ever

Everyone close your eyes because everything will be described while you see it happening.

Low pacing, no real story, dull "acting" (Yes, you Jared), miscasts, sidekicks without purpose or story, one-liner without any effect, fanboy service without any relations to the "story", etc.

Another soulless sequel instead of some origin story.

Simply the longest, most expensive, best-looking music video in 2025.

Visually appealing, lacking depth

I guess I got what I was expecting from the film when I watched it on the big screen. I was just hoping it would exceed my expectations, that it would build on and progress further from the preceding 2010 film, which already had the great potential or foundation of not relying on the visuals/aesthetics alone.

I echo the same sentiments from early reviews that the film lacked much from the character depth perspective. It does not serve emotionally, but delivers on the visuals. What I love most is when it took the prior Tron films' aesthetics in a different setting - that was really cool! Love the soundtrack as well!

Overall, mostly the visuals and sound kept my attention, but all other aspects were kind of flat.

Looking forward to the next one, which I hope would not solely rely on visuals/aesthetics.

A decent follow-up

The long awaited follow-up to Tron: Legacy from 2010; Tron: Ares.

15 years later and it's a miracle this movie even exists since Tron: Legacy didn't do amazingly in terms of making money. Basically became a cult classic instead.

Anyway; this film had a lot to live up to, and I'd say not to set your expectations as high as Tron: Legacy. While it does improve on the VFX greatly over the previous film, it doesn't quite go as far as capturing lightning in a bottle.

Largely this is a sequel to the original 1982, but it doesn't ignore Tron: Legacy.

The music, while not Daft Punk, was the best possible it could have been from Nine Inch Nails.

The story and characters were fairly decent, but I think this is mostly a fun movie with plenty of action sequences.

A 7/10 for me. Maybe some day this will have a similar cult following as the 1982 original, and 2010's Tron: Legacy? Only time will tell.

If you do want to see this, I'd recommend checking it out while it's still in the cinema because it does benefit for being a big screen experience.

Solid Franchise Entry

Entertainment and creative works, generally, are incredibly subjective. When I see a movie I think of it as a conversation. Was this movie an interesting conversation? I for one thought that it was. AI technology was the central theme, as has been for the entire franchise so nothing new thematically. Some have gone as far as calling this pro-AI propaganda which is unfair considering that it has been the core is the 1982 film. Ares is simply being faithful to it's source material. The AI theme by extension is enough for many to write off the rest of the film as "souless," to which I also disagree. The narrative brings about the question of ethics in the realm of AI. The secondary theme of lasting or remaining in terms of just existing. A flesh and blood being is fleeting but a digital organism is what? Is it indefinite? Is it up to the user? AI can be used for good and/or bad. If an AI does finally become self aware will it be benevolent? Or...? So I do think this movie is a good conversation and not forgettable. It just really depends on the individual user's life experience as to what layers they can see in the film. Even films require some imagination, especially high fantasy films such as this. Also it's extremely pretty and the sound is phenomenal!

Everybody Is Hating On This Movie

I just got back from the movie and the only reason people are hating on this movie is that it's not a direct sequel to Tron: Legacy and want to to be the next Morbius for them to joke on.

The movie is just as just as entertaining as Legacy with it's plot, visuals and music. People are saying Legacy's plot is better just because it's about Flynn and his son, Sam. Sorry, but Legacy's overall plot isn't that deep. I love Legacy, but it's no Citizen Kane.

As for Tron: Ares, it does what it sets out to do - entertain you. The plot is solid, it's visually exciting, the special effect are high quality and the music is excellent.

Stunning visuals

After more than forty years, the Tron saga continues - and surprisingly, it still manages to feel fresh. Tron: Ares is an immersive experience packed with stunning visuals, electrifying music, and a story that hits right at the heart of our modern conversations about AI. The digital world has never looked better, even if at times the sheer amount of CGI might be a bit much for some viewers.

The soundtrack, composed by Nine Inch Nails, pulses with industrial energy and perfectly matches the movie's sleek, neon-drenched atmosphere. Still, I have to admit - Daft Punk's score from Tron: Legacy remains unbeatable for me. The acting is solid, though not the film's highlight; it's really the audiovisual spectacle and philosophical undertones that carry the weight here.

Tron: Ares might not reinvent the wheel, but it delivers a thrilling, thought-provoking ride through the grid. If you're in the mood for a high-tech adventure and a fun popcorn evening, this one's absolutely worth plugging into.

Hint: 15 seconds into the credits there is an extra scene. It's safe to leave after that scene.

Rushed and poorly written story.

The story feels a typical Disney case where the story is too fast and not able to express what it should. The plot, storytelling and dialogues leaves a lot of potencial behind a rushed and frail film. Having Jared Leto in your movie and not letting him speak should be a punishable crime.

In a movie the music is important but so are the silences and what they do in these, leaving you contemplating the beautiful scenery or getting you even more hooked with the question of whats going to happen. There is not a single moment in the movie where there's not this intense ambience. You are entering a building with nothing interesting happening? **starts playing boss fighting music**.

They leave no space in between to even think for one second about what's going on.

This movie will be amazing for kids, fans and dopamine-addicted people looking for something quick to watch.

Biodigital Jazz, Man!

In the words of Marty McFly, "I guess you guys are not ready for that yet, but your kids are gonna love it." That's exactly how Tron Ares feels. It's bold, hypnotic, cheesy-fun, and completely committed to its vision.

I've been a fan of Tron for years, and while this movie is definitely not perfect, it captures the spirit of what makes the franchise special. The visuals are out of this world, and the NIN soundtrack takes everything to another level. Every frame feels alive, every sound hits with purpose, and the energy never fades.

Tron Ares is a great entry for more Tron movies, television, and games in the future. It reminds you why this world still matters. If this is the direction they are going, the next generation of fans is truly going to love it.

Stunning visuals, Phenomenal soundtrack, Uninspired Story

Tron: Ares is the latest film in the Tron series revolving around two tech billionaires fighting to find a mysterious code while a AI soldier goes rogue as he starts to gain sentience. I haven't actually watched the previous Tron movies but I am aware of them and know generally what happens which was fine as the movie isn't a direct sequel. Visually the movie can be stunning when you get to the Grid world and when the Grid elements start to move into our world. The music is also phenomenal as Nine Inch Nails provides the soundtrack. I saw the movie in Dolby and it made it a great experience because I was just jamming to the music and just enjoying the visuals...... which is good because the movie is pretty bland. The story is extremely uninspired. Jared Leto plays Ares, the rogue Ai trying to gain sentience which goes exactly how all Sci-fi stories go with Ai. Leto isn't bad but he plays stoic the entire time so you don't really get emotionally invested in him. The other characters are also pretty bland stereotypes of what you see in Sci-fi movies. The mechanics of the technology also make zero sense and there is a lot of dumb moments the characters do throughout. You could enjoy the movie on the background while jamming out to its soundtrack.

Superb musical score but the rest is meh.

If this movie didn't have the amazing musical score it would be quite disappointing. The screenplay, the direction, the acting are all very mediocre, verging on poor. The music elevates this movie quite a bit, I think it is certain to be nominated for an Oscar. Without that music the movie would be only a 4 out of 10, the score elevates it to a 6. Among other things I find it funny that the AI-generated, perfect soldiers all have different facial features and hair, one is a white male, another is a black female etc. Why? Artificially made, perfect soldiers mass produced in a factory would all look exactly the same.

"I am fearless, and therefore powerful."

TRON Ares was pretty good all things considered and a fresh take on the series. Don't really understand the backlash behind the film apart from the red carpet being used as marketing for Grok AI and Tesla Optimus, which I guess makes sense seeing as TRON Ares delves into the meat of modern AI. Definitely the main highlight of the film had to be the stunning visuals, every scene was breathtaking and fully captures the feel of TRON in the real world with some immaculate sound design. Definitely one of Jared Leto's better performances as Ares, guess he's really good at playing the role of an AI than any actual human being, the rest of the cast was fine. The soundtrack was an absolute banger, couldn't stop bopping my head throughout the film. Their are some cool concepts that would have been interesting to explore, but the story is rather basic with the whole AI premise serving as the main focus along with Ares wanting to obtain permanence, there's also some nods to the original films that fans will enjoy. Overall, TRON Ares was a lot better than I was expecting and definitely worth checking out, wouldn't mind seeing a sequel if they were open to it.
