Surprisingly good - and violent...
Well, I can start by saying that I wasn't really expecting much, given the dubious 2016 live action movie. But hey, I hadn't seen "Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay", so I watched it. And it turns out, oddly enough, that this animated movie far outdid the live movie. Who knew...
The storyline in "Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay" was straight forward, so you shouldn't expect a Shakespearian masterpiece in terms of storyline, script and writing. However, what does work here is the fact that this animated movie is for a mature audience. There is a heap of graphic violence in the story, which really surprised me. As well as deaths of not only goons and those opposing the Suicide Squad, but also members of the Suicide Squad themselves. That was definitely something that I enjoyed.
And they had put together a good group of voice talents for the various characters in the animated movie. That really helps an animated movie along quite a long way. So that was a good thing.
As for the style of the drawing and the art, then I liked that. It had a hint of that classic 1980s cartoon style to it that I grew up with and loved then and still do. But still, it has just enough updated contents to make it appear not fully retro. That worked well for the animated movie in my opinion.
I enjoyed "Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay", and I am rating it a seven out of ten stars. This is definitely one of the better animated superhero movies that I have had the fortune of sitting through. It is well-worth the time, just forget that you ever saw that 2016 movie.
violent and bloody
The live-action Suicide Squad movies are silly and comedic and rather wacky. This animated movie is darker and maybe even more violent. It's definitely less silly. It doesn't shy away from the violence and the blood. It's good and different from the big theatrical movies.
No kids movie
Better than the Rest
On the negatives, some of the dialogue was corny. But that's a small nitpick in an otherwise great animated film. The voice acting was pretty spot on. I cant wait for the next DC animated film.
What The 2016 Film Should Have Been
¿Sabías que…?
- TriviaThis is the fourth DC Animated to be rated R by the MPAA (Motion Picture Association Of America) after Batman: La broma mortal (2016), Liga de la Justicia Oscura (2017) and Batman: Luz de gas (2018). It is however the second film to be given an MA15+ rating by the ACB (Australian Classification Board) after Batman: La broma mortal (2016).
- ErroresWhen everyone leaves the strip club in Branson, Missouri, numerous buildings have the label "CASINO" over their doors. Branson famously doesn't allow casinos within the city limits.

Captain Boomerang: [referring to Waller] You don't think she actually believes those stories, do you?
Killer Frost: What?
Captain Boomerang: Well, that thing about you being able to avoid Hell.
Killer Frost: I have no idea. I always thought this was Hell, Captain Kangaroo.
Captain Boomerang: Hey, first of all, that's offensive. I'll tell you what, if one of us deserves Hell, it's Waller. And the bitch knows it. Always playing God.
Harley Quinn: I'm not worried, I know I'm going to Heaven. Anyone who can stand Mr. J deserves mercy.
Captain Boomerang: Ha! The problem is, darling, you have to die to find out if the card works. It would be embarrassing if it didn't. What about you, gunslinger? Do you think the card will wipe away the blood you've shed? Or don't you believe in Heaven?
[laughs sarcastically]
Deadshot: I believe in Heaven, Boomer. Every time you close your mouth.
Bronze Tiger: You joke about Heaven and Hell, Deadshot. Believe me, they exist. Not a morning goes by that I don't wake up wondering if this will be my judgment day. Whether I'll end up with the woman I love or face the lake of hellfire with the same beast that took me there. The only thing anyone can hope for is divine intervention. Only by the grace of God can we be saved from the eternal curse of all the blood shed. Everything else is pure stories.
Captain Boomerang: I think the card is not superfluous.
