I didn't watch the original and believed it's good too. The director well controls over the development pace of the plot, and the performance of the actors. Also it's interesting to see what chemistry will create when a hooligan cop meets up a villain. Never thought Aaron Kwok can do well in dark humor movie, the scenes like he is holding the balloon in the morgue and how he reacts to Wang's invitation for eating noodle. All these are so funny, entertaining and exciting. I may watch the original later.
