Monday

After watching El Rey's "Rebel Without a Crew", I decided to watch all 5 movies, produced by Robert Rodriguez, on a tiny $7,000 budget (similar to how he made his 1st feature, El Mariachi) and write reviews as I watch each one.

Looks like I saved the best for last, because Monday was the best of them all. Perfect blend of action and dark comedy. I can see a bright future for Director Alejandro Montoya Marín and at the end of the "Rebels" TV show I hear he's already at work on "Tuesday"...BRING IT ON! We need a movie series of the WHOLE week!

Monday is a film Directed by Alejandro Montoya Marin produced by Robert Rodriguez. This feature was made during the making of Rebel Without a Crew where filmmakers were given only $7000 to make a feature, similar to Robert Rodriguez's experience making the Film "El Mariachi."

Alejandro is no stranger to making quality film with limited resources and with "Monday" he thrives above and beyond. Monday is an entertaining Action Comedy about a likeable loser, "Jim" played by Jamie Jung. We can all relate. We wake up one morning and it's rough only in Jim's case, he looses his job, he looses girl and to add icing on the cake, he gets entangled in a cartel hit agenda. All this leading into a clever heightened adventure of having the serious case of the "Mondays."

The film is well cast with Sofia Embid playing the conflicted Sam. Kenneth McGlothin brings in a hilarious comedic Performance playing Jim's Best Friend, Paul, and of course a strong villainous performance from Anna Schatte whose actions through out the film will make you widen your eyes and say' " Holy S---"

Monday is available for purchase on iTunes. I highly recommend watching this film, not just for entertainment, but for other filmmakers to learn how Creativity, as oppose to resources, can make for a quality film.

Monday is a incredibly fun and entertaining movie experience, I would love to see a Saga made out of this (or at least a Trilogy) Loving Characters with great backgrounds, I Honestly think that The Hit-woman stole the movie, amazing actress, her character reminded me of the T-1000 in terminator 2... She is unstoppable and a bad-ass villain! the setting and tone of the movie reminded me of the early work of Scorsese in After Hours with a mix of Tarantino´s Reservoir Dogs but with its own style and formula. The Only Thing I can call out is the Length..It felt it run a little bit short. I would love to see more scenes with Paul (Kenneth´s Character) it was hilarious and I think an additional scene or two wold help the time also, Joe´s Character (Carlos Laredo), he was AMAZING, I would have love seen him more, maybe on a flash back scene or something doing some Gangster thing Overall Great Action, Suspense and greatly timed comedy pieces

I spend more time than I like to admit watching indie films and "Monday" was one of last year's finest. Monday is a gritty action comedy made on an insanely low budget that without a doubt holds up to the year's finest indie features. The film takes you on a roller coaster ride - Lead Jamie Jung's has a breakthrough performance. His comedic timing and execution of the everyman is standout and the rest of the cast follows suit.

What's even more outstanding is the film's direction. Director Alejandro Montoya Marin took hold of the genre and in the vein of indie icon Robert Rodriguez is breaking onto the scene with something fresh and original. If it's at a screen near you - DON'T MISS MONDAY!

Monday is a well written and directed film with an excellent cast. If you have been following "Rebel Without A Crew" this will not disappoint you. It's hard to pull off a movie on a reality show with everyone constantly nagging you and on a 7K budget no less! But Alex really pulls it off I can't wait for this to come on demand for the showcase and I can watch it again.
