Together with the director's next film, Whose Crime Is It Anyway? (2018), this film celebrates diversity featuring an Asian actress in the lead role while the next film depicts two lesbian characters.
Jacqueline once said on a podcast interview that this film (her "directorial debut") was born when her good friend (lead actress Lim) was on a quiet spell due to there being a shortage of acting work in their home town of Perth. Jacqueline supposedly said 'to hell with this' and wrote Lim a film to star in, then realised that she actually had to get a crew together if she was ever to see Lim undertake the role. At this point Jacqueline's only experience on film sets was as an actress and so she paired with another friend of hers (director of photography and independent filmmaker Lorian) and together they brought Love At First Sight (2018) to life, with her directing and the two of them producing together. Jacqueline describes this somewhat sudden thrust into directing as a "turning point" in her film journey and as for Lim, she won Best Actress at New York Film Awards as a result of this role. The two have remained friends.
