Recursion is so heavily influenced by the Alien franchise that it honestly feels like it could take place in the same universe. But at the same time, it's more of a tribute, borrowing the vibe and some elements while still telling its own story with its own twists.
As a long-time Alien fan, I really enjoyed spotting all the references - they were everywhere, and part of the fun was just picking them out. The filmmakers did a great job with those nods, and they felt very natural. But even beyond the Alien influence, this sci-fi short is quite interesting on its own. I'd absolutely love to see a full-length version of this - there's definitely potential here.
The plot twist is based on an idea we've seen before, but it's one that doesn't get used nearly as much as it could. Recursion shows that it can still be very effective, and leaves you wanting to see where the story could go next.
