Whart happens when you cooperate with the STASI in the GDR

This film clearly shows the problems encountered by citizens of the GDR who cooperated for various reasons with the STASI. It is sad but true to note that this intelligent man, Manfred Boehme, was sucked into working for them and he could not remove himself from the web he found himself in. In the end, after the demise of the German Democratic Republic, it all came back to haunt him and to cause him to deny it all. It seems to me that he was certainly a tragic figure who compromised the safety even of his own best friends.

The film is excellent and is highly recommended. However, some background information about the GDR and its end is required to fully understand the story.
