Whipped

Amazingly true dialogue, thoroughly developed characters who we all know and love to hate, raunchy and wicked good fun. Peter M. Cohen is a clever, funny writer and film-maker and the casting is wonderfully rich...kudos to Jodi Collins, the Casting Director who are often unsung heroes in the indie film making world, along with kudos to a brilliant editing job! A truly pro and wonderful team all the way around.

A film much along the tone of "Sex and the City."... but different!?! Really open and true to the way we relate..., no matter what we deny! A definite "worth see."

And as always, a brilliant and "perfectly simple & charming" job done by the lead of the female cast, the wonderfully wicked and talented Amanda Peet as Mia...with a lovely cameo played by her actress best friend, Leslie Cohen (no relation to the director!)

Also, shining compliments to Jonathan Abrahams as "Jonathan" and Judah Domke as "Eric, the married guy."

Fun, fun, fun.

I'll be blunt and to the point. This film is not good at all. The film buff part of me hated the acting, script, story, direction and almost all of the editing. Amanda Peet has proven that she can act, as she was a high point of 'The Whole Nine Yards'. So she should have avoided this movie with a ten foot pole. However, the infantile part of me found this film to be very funny. If you can forget about how underpar the production quality is, and if you find smut jokes funny, then you should be all right. And for those of you who can't get off your pedestal, thats your choice. My inner child hasen't died, and I laughed a fair bit. Even then, only a 3 out of ten, because as a movie, it really does stink.

Four best friends young male chauvinist pigs (with the emphasis on pigs) meet weekly at a NYC diner to recount their dating sexploits in this misanthropic and visceral comedy. Peet is the common denominator who dates the three bachelors in the group which leads to conflict and the inevitable "whipping". Although the film's premise has potential and there are some funny moments to be had, overall the flick doesn't work especially in the end where the girls are made to appear no better than the guys which runs contrary to the crux of the story. One of those one-man band flix with a dozen producers, "Whipped" is likely to be enjoyed only by the kind of young males who think "The Man Show" is Emmy material.

Coarse commercialization of the Neil LaBute shtik: three manipulative, woman-hatin' white playas all fall for the same dish (Amanda Peet) and get their comeuppance faster than you can say "Last reel of CARNAL KNOWLEDGE." An actually consistently funny reversal of IN THE COMPANY OF MEN, WHIPPED was so loathed by every upstanding film critic in America that I felt half compelled to like it out of sheer orneriness. But the bottom line is, funny is funny, and this is pretty funny stuff. To all those "For shame, for shame!" critics: Does this material only get a pass when the Farrelly Brothers do it? And do they only get a pass because they make money?

If you're an Amanda Peet fan (and who isn't?), you might have been considering viewing this one. Don't. It's a mess.

The characters are SO unlikable that it's impossible to find it comedic. I started hitting the fast forward in hopes of finding some comedy but there just isn't any.
