For those who had seen "Dick Smith, Makeup Artist" (1976), this 1991 special goes as an expansion of the previous film. In this one, we follow some
moments of the Oscar winning veteran make-up artist presenting some of the tricks used in his many creations in films such as "The Godfather", "Altered
States", "The Sunshine Boys" and "Amadeus", but we also have interviews with the actors who faced long hours in the make-up getting their hair and faces
changed for one of the mentioned films, either becoming older versions of the characters they played or becoming creatures. Director William Friedkin,
makeup genius Rick Baker (who trained with Smith) and others are also present, sharing their thoughts about the extremely gifted artist who loved his
work and developed the careers of many future make-up artists.
It's a very commendable great piece on the legendary Dick Smith, as he exposes his creations and the care and love about his work, showing
everything in a very simple and humble manner, the great reasons that made him one of the most fascinating and respected people in the film industry.
Curious minds about the craft of movie makeup or the making of films will enjoy it greatly, and I also recommend the previous piece that was directed his son. 9/10.
