Tracy Morgan's character may be loosely based on Martin Lawrence and Garrett Morris. However, in an interview in Playboy in November 2009, Morgan downplayed Lawrence's influence, and it was suggested Tracy Jordan is based on Morgan himself. When asked if he resented being made fun of on the show, Morgan simply replied that he is fiercely loyal to Tina Fey.

Jack is loosely based on Lorne Michaels.

Josh is loosely based on Jimmy Fallon.

Liz Lemon is based on the actress who plays her, Tina Fey. The long time friendship and working relationship between Liz and Jenna is based on that of Tina Fey and Rachel Dratch, who was originally set to play Jenna.

That's the original title of the show. In the pilot episode, Tracy Jordan is added to the cast of The Girlie Show and displaces Jenna as the star. In the next episode, Jack Donaghy changes the show title to TGS with Tracy Jordan, but some posters reading "The Girlie Show" were obviously left on the walls.

A May 2006 press release mentioned that sketches from The Girlie Show would be made available in their entirety on NBC's broadband website, DotComedy.com, but this idea was eventually dropped. There have been various hints throughout the series that Kenneth is much older than he seems and is actually kept young by supernatural means. In 'Mamma Mia' he implies that he took part in the 1944 Normandy landings and states that he'd had a pet bird for over 60 years, before Jenna and Tracey accidentally killed it. In 'The Problem Solvers' he reacts with alarm when he thinks Tracey is suggesting that he has lived forever. In 'The Ones' he gasps "My real name is" before dying and then returning from the dead, which he also does in 'College'. In 'Black Light Attack' he can hear the low pitched sound that is only audible to those over 40. In 'When It Rains, It Pours' he packs up a suitcase of his mementos from the show labelled 19451967. In 'Don Geiss, America & Hope' he is worried that the new company he's working for will have a problem with workers old enough to retire. He speaks fluent Latin and Mandarin as well as appears to have great knowledge of TV shows and events that far predate his official birthday mentioning that he once met an 8 year old Shirley Temple (born 1928). In 'Queen of Jordan' he is referred to as an "Elderly Page". It is speculated that actually he is an Immortal from the 'Highlander' film/TV series universe, explaining why he seems so behind the times in many ways.

During the closing credits of '100', the camera pans across three gravestones, the last of which is Kenneth's. His birth date seems to be May 27th 1781 and once again he appears to return from the dead. In the final scene of the series we see that Kenneth has risen to be head of the network, looking no older despite commissioning a show from Liz Lemon's adult granddaughter in a world with flying cars.

Julianne Moore earned a BFA in theatre at Boston University, one of the premiere theatre departments in the US. She has said in interviews that she based Nancy's accent on those of co-workers at a bar in South Boston where she worked in college. Knowledgeable sources have attested that her accent for Nancy is indeed an authentic South Boston "Southie" accent. When Cynthia Nixon recreates Nancy's character for her role in the Avery Jessop film she checks with Liz if her accent is ok and Liz replies "Yes, people from Boston really sound like that to me"

It's a traditional horror movie style last second cheeky scare in much the same manner of 'Carrie', casting 'Leap Day William' as still a benevolent figure but with a slightly sinister side, much like the Halloween Jack-o-Lantern. We're told he lives at the bottom of the Mariana trench so his pike teeth are adapted for the fish he eats, possibly why he encourages Tracey to buy free seafood for everyone.
