Moments of Love

Old school yet really touching drama movie.

Touches your heart the way only a few movie dramas can

10/10.

This is a sweet and lovable film about two people who can communicate with each other through a phone despite being in different timelines 50 years apart. Don't expect major twists and revelations to appear in the fairly straightforward story. Calzado and Dantes matches up pretty well. Calzado's excellent performance leads to her character being root worthy and garnering sympathy. This is another of many films where people can communicate despite time/space barriers. This came out months earlier than the "Lakehouse". Compared against that, I prefer "Moments of Love" because the two leads as a whole performed better. The "Lakehouse" is more overwrought as well. Sandra Bullock had to carry significantly more weight on it due to Reeves' being out of his elements outside of action and scifi roles. If you liked this, check out "Eternity". It is from the same director and features the similar elements. More importantly, it also has Calzado in a lead role (Yes, I'm a fan in you haven't realized by reading this review).

.... sub-plots are actually tight (rare for Filipino flicks) .... has some black magic involved .... Ding-Dong and Iza have pretty good acting skills .... the crying scenes are overdone, as always. I don't know why we Filipinos are so over-dramatic .... that incredibly ridiculous acting by Karille (Zsa-Zsa Padilla's daughter) as the irritating coquette, could she have played the role down a notch and it would have been more enjoyable .... Paolo Contis is very stiff almost abnormal, is he playing a psycho-maniac? If he had relaxed a bit it would have added a little dose of realism to his acting, his characterization is so unreal!

Moments of Love is a great romantic epic with a unique twist! Although the concept is unoriginal, this movie is much better than its other Asian counterparts that have the same theme (Sky of Love, Ditto and Il Mare). The location is admirable. Great cinematography. The theme song adds magic and does wonders to the movie.

Dingdong Dantes and Iza Calzado have undeniable chemistry. Dantes really looks a great on screen appeal and his performance in the movie is a way better than before, not his best, I know he can do more better. Iza Calzado is a revelation in the movie. She is at her best as Divina Buenacer from the '50s, very Filipina. Both of them deserves an acting recognition for their performance in the movie. Gloria Romero is, as always at her best.

However, there are some characters added that are not necessarily needed in the movie.

Despite its flaws, it is one of the best Filipino movies that I have seen so far.

It is worth watching. A really touching love story..
